Miss India America

Great movie! Love seeing an all Indian cast in a movie that I can relate to and be proud of!

a cute comedy about a high school graduated who had never lost anything ever in her life..losses her boyfriend.friend. and social status so she decides to precude to become Miss India America to prove a point or is the point proved to her.

I watched this on Netflix and it was ok but nothing to write about really. It is what I call a Netflix filler. :) A smart Indian girl goes into a Miss India America Pagent to get her boyfriend back and fails the whole movie is about success and failure and to a degree its good causes culturally these two aspects can affect young people and their family. It is fun light and a time filler anyone can really watch this flick.

I appreciate the directors efforts to make a film about the Indian-American experience that wasn't chock-full of cliches and the lead actress is very promising, but something was missing from this. It needed Kaur a bit more substance and a few more laughs.

Despite its faults, Miss India America is a funny and touching film, which manages to showcase a significant talent in Tiya Sircar, and poke around some cultural issues without becoming preachy or worthy.

If you are looking for a fluff film with pretty people and minimal substance, Miss. India America is your film. With characters that are shallow in every sense of the world and the insufferable world of pagents and beauty queens there is little to recommend it. It's not all bad however, if nothing else, there is the fact that an American film focuses on Indo-American women to celebrate. There are also a few jokes that don't fall flat and some lovely moments of Indian culture meeting American culture in a beautiful fusion. Mostly though, it is a film that is weighed down by conventions, stereotypes and rom com baggage.
