So perfectly unique and unapologetically heart breaking.

Edit: Sorry, I'm just not realizing this movie is G-rated. Please disregard (although, I'm not sure why it was playing on regular television). I'm sorry, I really try to not be mean about movies and to take them as entertainment but this was insufferable. I'm not even sure how long I lasted. I don't know the best way to describe it, but it's very obvious that this is a movie, and I found it impossible to get immersed. I wouldn't be surprised is one of the actors blurted out direction notes it's so forced. The way the characters behave is so inorganic, it's almost like this could be Not Another Whimsical Movie. It's like they're Doctor Seuss characters, but in a normal world, so it just doesn't work, and it's painful.

This movie is by far one of the most incredible films I have ever seen. As a child I was so drawn to the color and imagination and the joy. Whenever I watched it, having being 8 when it came out, I was always filled with such emotion. It helped me understand death in a light and special way when it had always seemed awful. And it is, death sucks. But this movie played a beautiful role in showing me how eloquent and okay everything would be also. As I grew older I thought about the movie frequently but only in passing, but over the last few months I felt drawn to it again. Only to discover you can't watch it, anywhere. But tonight I found a perfect full length version on YouTube and cried the whole time I watched it. Now being 25 and seemingly inserting childlike wonder and optimism into just about everything I can I can't help but give this movie some credit for helping me achieve the WONDERful outlook I have now. Wherever I was slowly turning grey on the inside as a result of a work, home, work, bills, home, work, clean, bills repetition, this movie filled me with color and wonder. I believe everyone should see this film, especially as an adult. And the music score?!?! Are you kidding! Phenomenal!! So moving. I'd see this movie accompanied by a live orchestra everyday for the rest of my life. All I'm saying is, the overall rating some shmucks gave this initially, made me feel terrible because this movie, this movie… is an absolute masterpiece. Thank you🍭🧡

One of the greatest films of all time. I simply can not fathom how anyone could not love this movie, it beautifully deals with the complex concepts of death and grief while showcasing a fun and whimsical world. All of the actors are incredible and morph into their respective characters absolutely. While the effects are dated by modern standards they are still of a high quality, selling the magic of the store and do not distract from the beauty of the world. The score is phenomenal too. Mr Magorium's speech is an absolute masterpiece and will never fail to make me shed a tear. "When King Lear dies in Act V, do you know what Shakespeare has written? He's written "He dies." That's all, nothing more. No fanfare, no metaphor, no brilliant final words. The culmination of the most influential work of dramatic literature is "He dies." It takes Shakespeare, a genius, to come up with "He dies." And yet every time I read those two words, I find myself overwhelmed with dysphoria. And I know it's only natural to be sad, but not because of the words "He dies." but because of the life we saw prior to the words." 10/10 would recommend to anyone.
