The cinematography and the scenery are spectacular, in addition to the acting of the main actor. Despite this, the film is very fictional and the director's point of view about the neruda is blind with admiration.

Interesting film, mostly because of the two protagonists.

I don't really know how to feel about this one. Just like when people saw Tenet this summer and didn't know what to do of it. I have to be honest and say I don't truly get this movie, in a sense is like a poem, you can feel and remain with what you want, open to interpretation, just like art. But at the same time I am not sure if this is like pretentious avant gard and it's hollow at it's core. Definitely a movie that will stuck with me, and that is a good thing, I guess. A movie that I would have to go back one day eventually.

A film overflowing with affectation that succeeded in turning Pablo Neruda into a Tracy Flick character.

Stylish, neo noir, meta, what more would you want?

One of the most perfected pictures from Chile, great photography, great actor and most of all good orchestration

Sure, this biography is full of poetic licenses, but if we won't allow that in a film about Neruda, which film are we going to save? Plus the poetry is everywhere: direction, acting, writing. You cannot really escape from it, or at least not in the way Neruda does throughout this work. Pompous but ironic, serious but bizarre, and in fewer words: recommended.

Pablo Neruda, a Nobel Prizw-winning poet from Chile is hunted down from an inspector after Pablo joined the Communist Party in the late 1940's. A rather interesting story, even if I never really heard of the guy. It's kind of a cat and mouse game, with a lack of action. That's the achilles heel here - it's pretty boring. It looks good, the acting is nice and the pace and presentation is solid. An all right score as well, but at times a bit repitative. The last half hour or so is much better, but I'm unsure why. Maybe the hunt from the inspector, superbly played out by Gael García Bernal, is finally going somewhere, somewhere with more nature and sweeter, less stressful shots. Everything is a bit purer and less compicated. I don't know, but I like that part better by far. Maybe I picked the wrong day, maybe it will grow on me. My first impression is OK, but I was left a bit disappointed. 6 out of 10 poems.

Chile's own catch me if you can! It was Chile's Oscars pick. It made into Golden Globe, but not the Oscars. After I disliked his previous film, looks Larrain back in action. Though, not entirely. This was a biopic, more or less a Chilean version of 'Catch Me If You Can' with a less intensity in its contents. If you are a fan of this director's narration then you might enjoy it. But I thought it was a little boring, due to slow moving story. Especially, half of the film was a background narration than the direct dialogues between the characters. The issue was, it was like someone in the bed, ill and they are narrating a tale. Too low voice like whispering which is equal to lullaby. On the other hand, now and then there were some fine scenes. It was a cat-mouse game. But nothing thrilling enough like you would expect from a cop chasing a bad guy films. The story was not deep or detail. Only those limited life events of Neruda were present on the screen. Most of them were silly ones, or maybe made it to look like that way. That's why it felt like a dark comedy. From the cop's perspective, don't expect like Sherlock Holmes level. The cast was good. The locations too, but not those projectors clips for backgrounds during vehicles scenes. So just an above average film. Though should have been better. 6/10
