Nights in Rodanthe

Casting was not good. No chemistry between the actors. Found it difficult to even cry when Paul died as there was no connection with the characters. Would have given it 1 star, but the scenery was pretty and I liked the horses at the end.

So disappointing. While watching, I kept hoping it would get better. Horrible acting! No chemistry. Nothing like the book. Don’t waste your time or money watching. Just read the book!

I loved this movie. Wonderful match to have Diane and Richard acting together. Wonderful house, location and story. So heartbreaking at the end, I felt the pain of Diane's character. I feel teary just writing this and remembering the movie that I watched many years ago. I would love to watch it again. Another good movie that also has Diane and Richard is Unfaithful, so good. Nice twist at the end. I'm a huge fan of Diane's. I can't remember how many times I've watched Under the Tuscan Sun. My go to movie when there's nothing else to watch or I want to watch a lovely movie.

maybe this was good when it came out but i just happened upon it now in 2024 and HORRIBLE acting? by richard gere and viola davis who i usually love-can't keep watching so the 1 star is for that....

The biggest issue in "Nights in Rodanthe" is that it is just a boring movie. I feel like the two leads here are good actors and they have genuine on-screen chemistry, I just didn't really care much about seeing their romance blossom. Also, even though this is a Nicholas Sparks adaptation, the sad ending is expected, but here it just feels really tacked on. I think the movie actually would have been better if it went for the happy ending, but because it is so committed to getting a reaction out of the viewer, the big tragedy at the end felt kind of eye-rolling. Overall, it is a movie that had the potential to be better, but as it stands it is mostly a snoozefest without much for me to really latch onto.

Some movies aren't for everyone. This is good for married couples who aren't bitter lonely Brooklynites. Sometimes you don't need to watch Hotel Rwanda before bed, you know?

The beauty of the beach; the love scenes filled of softness; Diane & Richard marvelous acting... a beautiful story of a real life (family, relationships, challenges, love and death)! I loved that movie even if the end is sad 💕

I liked this movie, it had a lot of sentiment about failures in midlife and looking back on life and wondering what areas in life we can be proud of versus where we are disappointed within ourselves. Both main characters had some growing to do and were victims of themselves and circumstance. The unexpected twist was shocking, I really didn't see it coming. My main issue was some of the technical problems. In 2009, they had plenty of technical know-how to mechanically repair anything on film. I had my own television show in the '90s and I edited it myself and I can promise you, I would have never allowed this to hit the screen and this was on public access!!! I had to do linear editing, there was nothing digital and since anything can be done digitized now, it makes no sense to me at all that it wasn't corrected. The opening shots where Richard Gere is leaving his house. There is a realtor at the front door. The wide shot has no buyers with her, but the opposite angle looking out from the front door, there are two buyers there! Not only was this a very obvious mistake that could so easily be corrected in post production, but they did the mistake yet again when they showed a further wide shot from street level which again the buyers were not there! If this were 50 years ago, you might be able to let it go and say all right, maybe the extras were not there that day, but it was just so glaringly obvious. Little things like the kitchen garbage can having tons of can dents in them from the scene with the cans, would just means they did several takes, this is something so easy to replace in between takes. Or fix in Post. There were many other technical issues as well that were easily correctable in post-production. The premise is somewhat unbelievable. To pay a "Five and Under" is practically nothing, this type of actor has five script lines or under, this day player actor could have made a phone call or in person visit with Richard Gere to play his lawyer saying that he was very opposed to meeting and how this was going to hurt him, maybe showing the torment Gere went through in making this decision. This would have been much more realistic. As well the Gere and and Lane character only knew each other one night and they were already getting very emotional, I realized they made a connection, but by day two she was already giving advice on how he should be handling his business and emotions and talking to the husband of the deceased. This is really overstepping boundaries, if they had been there for a few weeks or months, yes, then you could say or if she was de facto or real girlfriend but it seemed somewhat impossible that someone you barely know is going to jump in with that much emotion and crossover into your personal decision making process. Had the script been written well, he may have been there for maybe a few weeks. Having sold to doctors for many years and having been engaged/living with one for 11 years, I know that the premise of the story without giving it away too much is not something that would ever happen, the sentiment, lack thereof in Gere's character as a doctor was not lost on me. But, for legal reasons, without above correction from attorney, not credible. As a three time hurricane survivor, the owner of Inn abandoned her house before hurricane and then the Diane Lane character was expected to stay there? Most people are cleared out and it is enforced, so that is extremely unlikely. This is something that could so easily be handled in the script where maybe the main character had a very important appointment or funeral or something like that where they couldn't get out of leaving so they had to leave town and the Diane Lane character was asked by a local official or maybe even just a simple phone call telling her that she would need to leave for the hurricane and she said that she decided to stay. It seems completely bizarre that the owner of the house would just disappear and be hooking up with some guy from France but expects to put her friend in danger? Still good, despite flaws.
