So ludicrously over-the-top...

It's defined by a constipated performance from Cavill and a debut screenplay from the film director David Raymond that's so titter-inducing and derivative that it appears to have come straight from the Spike Jonze satire Adaptation.

As far as you can work out, the film isn't aiming for slippery Lynchian dream logic or head-scratching dead ends, just stumbling into that arena through sheer confusion.

This is such twaddle it becomes kind of fun, except that there's an uncomfortable feeling - as with many vigilante movies - that the film is revelling in the sexual violence and covering itself with the fig leaf of justice-seeking.

At a time when television is easier to make than films, it's a pity that a quart of plot in a pint-sized pot is largely to blame for this muddled misfire, which wastes some promising ideas and an impressive cast.

Testing the limits of good taste in otherwise formulaic grimdark entertainment is one thing, but pushing against those boundaries for its own sake is just tiresome.

…for Henry Cavill, it’s a welcome change of pace to see him in a more human role that the usual supermen characters that his physique seems to inspire&#59; he helps make Night Hunter watchable…

...hopelessly anticlimactic...

It has an interesting idea which it toys with but never explores. Instead “Night Hunter” embraces things other movies have done better, making it come across as unoriginal and predictable.

Goes up in flames despite a stellar cast.
