As a general movie, it's passable. But as a Studio Ghibli movie, it's terrible and unfitting.

the ending is kinda a cliffhanger

Es una buena película, algo confusa cuando la ves por primera vez, pero después de verla por segunda vez te das cuenta de que no es solo una simple película que habla del amor de dos adolescentes, sino que profundiza más sobre lo confuso y complejo que pueden ser los sentimientos cuando uno es joven, sin dejar de lado su hermosa y linda animación.'Puedo escuchar el mar' es un nombre metafórico. El mar es, muchas veces, violento e intenso, y otras veces, tranquilo y pasivo, tal como muchas emociones.

One of Studio Ghibli’s most underappreciated movies. It treads familiar territory like in; Whisper Of The Heart and Only Yesterday but still a great movie by itself

I love the way this movie explores the hardships that young people have to go through. Highly relatable and the asthetics and the way they go through everything is just great. Only giving five stars because Rotten Tomatoes doesn't allow for more. And those people rating it less than five stars, are you guys okay?

Filme ruim com cenas bonitas. A menina é uma escrota e o menino é um idiota. Os dois ficam brigando o filme inteiro culminando em tapa na cara de ambos os lados e no último ato eles inventam um amor tirado do cu.

Even the worst of Studio Ghibli is still pretty decent. There's nothing egregiously bad about this film, it just doesn't really have a point. It feels like it's building towards some character growth and big emotions, but instead, characters remain largely the same for like 20 years and none of the asshole characters face any real consequences. Unsurprisingly, the animation lives up to the studio's standards. You can throw a dart at Studio Ghibli's filmography and easily find another film that explores the same themes with twice as much depth and emotion.

It's really not a good romance movie. The main issue I had was the girl love interest, she's so unlikable it's insane. I don't get how on earth the main dude in this still had feelings for the girl despite her stealing, manipulating, whining, and overall just constantly being annoying throughout the whole movie. And she never redeems herself in the slightest so the ending just feels super forced.

Taku e Yutaka estudam no mesmo colégio, mas em salas diferentes, porém se tornam amigos após um protesto sobre o cancelamento da viagem que as turmas do colégio fazem. Porém, tudo começa a mudar com a transferência de Rikako, no meio do ano, para o colégio, vinda de Tóquio para Kochi. Excelente aluna e atleta, ela acaba se indispondo com todos. Os únicos com quem ela tem um relação são Taku, Yutaka e uma outra garota chamada Yumi. Dois anos depois, haverá uma reunião da turma do colégio e a oportunidade para avaliar os sentimentos de todos, É o típico romance adolescente de cidade grande, com preocupações com notas, entrar na faculdade, relacionamentos amorosos e com os pais. Como sempre nesses romances, os adultos são mais falados do que são presença ativa. Tirando os professores no início do filme, apenas a mãe de Taku e o pai de Rikako são apresentados. Talvez seja normal este papel secundário, já que os adolescentes são bem egoístas, no sentido que eles dão prioridade mais a eles mesmos. Muita gente pode achar que seja muita água com açúcar e é mesmo, mas a história é contada pela qualidade da animação dos Estúdios Ghibli, o que acaba dando um certo charme para o romance. Talvez um filme menor, mas nunca ruim.

I genuinely wonder what people could see in this film. Visuals and soundtrack are good, but the character interactions are all incredibly forced and unnatural, and the film seems to glorify returning to toxic relationships because "it wasn't all that bad, I guess." I was friends with a girl just like that in high school. Believe me, it does not improve with time. This does lead to an unintentionally hilarious scene at the end though: the high school flashback plays and the only scenes in it (or in the entire movie) are all just the girl being awful to him while the film plays it up as fun nostalgic memories.
