On Fire

There is something depressingly retro about a plot that hinges on a man digging deep to heroically rescue his family.

'On Fire' does the best it can with what it has. It’s still not enough to move the needle.

Low-budget eco-thriller lacks the necessary tension and excitement

On Fire is both not particularly good and not particularly bad, and if you don’t like that wishy-washy assessment, feel free to set fire to the fence I’m sitting on – it wasn’t very comfortable anyway.

Facinelli shows equal skill in playing the family man as he does to create a towering inferno without the use of real fire. The combination makes this a solid effort.

This adrenaline-packed drama, which has solid acting and serviceable visual effects, is a blend of predictable and unpredictable. Along with the family crisis are various attitudes about the correlation between climate change and forest fires.

The cast is uniformly strong, and the cinematography lovingly captures the beauty and danger of fire.

The story is a bit predictable beyond the twists and turns here and there, some of which end up not feeling quite right here, but it’s a decently put together story and film.

The fire effects are handled well and it’s really this monstrous inferno which dominates the screen.
