Operation Chromite
audience Reviews
, 53% Audience Score- Rating: 2.5 out of 5 starsIt's not bad, but some odd writing & deliveries make this war film a bizarre affair that's also quite stunning.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 starsI actually could not stand that interpretation voice overs so it’s tough to rate 2.0
- Rating: 1 out of 5 starsPoor verging on embarrassing drivel
- Rating: 2.5 out of 5 starsNeither horrific nor particularly memorable... Neeson's acting falls short in this one. Woefully short
- Rating: 4.5 out of 5 starsAdmit it, Western eyes are so ignorant of any Korean perspective of the Korean war that this simple classic war epic is at minimum, educational. If graded in relation to our absolute ignorance, then this gets an A+ as a Beginning Course in understanding the Korean War, despite poetic license or outright inaccuracies. Although not in the same rhythm as our requisite, to the point of banally trite, neo-nihilistic, and depressingly anti-hero laden, filmic genre that we fawn over with high reviews, the film is, by comparison, almost perfectly imperfect, well made despite immense obstacles, such as the challenge in including a large American Viewpoint within this Korean Motion Picture. One sees heroism and fighting against immense odds, and the viewer comes away with increased knowledge of one of the most important events in 20th Century History. Despite this, Rotten Tomatoes gives this film a 33% and Spider Man 90% and Iron Man 94% and Kill Bill Volume II 84%. Somebody, please, gag me with a spoon. Anyway, setting all that aside, and despite its imperfections, I found the film informative, emotionally moving, and catalytic in reminding me, although a student of Asian Culture and History, how little I, and most Americans, really know about Korea and, specifically the subject of this film, the Korean War. 4.5 Stars.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsThe movie is thrilling and I love the actors!
- Rating: 3.5 out of 5 starsMake no mistake, this is a Korean movie, nearly all subtitled (I was not aware of this from the preview). That said, it did a good job holding my attention. I always wonder how true to facts a movie "based on actual events" is, and I do not know how accurate this film is, but if most of it is a true story, then it is quite remarkable what those young Korean men did for the war effort. This movie is heartwarming and sad, and ultimately very engaging.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsThere are a lot of contradictory moments that do not allow to consider in essence the very dramatic note. Already have watched few times using boxxy software
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsOne of greatest films based on real life events during the Korean War !
- Rating: 2 out of 5 starsNothing special - conventional, gung ho war movie. September 1950. UN forces under General Douglas MacArthur are poised to invade and retake South Korea at the port city of Incheon. However, the operation, Operation Chromite, is fraught with risks and has a high probability of failure. In order to gain more intelligence on enemy positions, especially the placement of sea mines, MacArthur sends a team of eight Korean spies into Incheon. This is their story. So-so. Had potential to be a gritty war drama, telling the story of the Battle of Incheon, which was a stroke of military genius. Instead it is a fairly conventional, gung ho war movie. Historical and military accuracy, and general plausibility, is sacrificed at the expense of action scenes, melodrama and empty sentimentality. Dialogue is generally over-the-top and quite ridiculous at times. Every kind of cliché you can think of, MacArthur (played by the unfortunate Liam Neeson) gets to utter. Add in a character whose sole job seems to be calling out the names of comrades as they get hit and otherwise being sullen and whiny, and some pretty hammy acting and you have a recipe for a pretty average movie, at best.
