Our Idiot Brother
audience Reviews
, 51% Audience Score- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsThe low ratings on this shock me. Maybe not enough people know hippie types like the main character and his ex-girlfriend and can appreciate how spot on the writing is. I felt like they conjured up people I've met over the years. Paul Rudd is more of an irresistible golden retriever in this than the actual dog. The mean passive-aggressive hippie chick played by Kathryn Hahn is spot on, she always makes me laugh. The cast is outstanding across the board, with Sterling K. Brown AND Adam Scott AND Elizabeth Banks AND Steve Coogan, (who also stars with Paul later in the also criminally underrated Ideal Home) who can resist? This is a great charming feel-good movie, easy to rewatch on a rainy day or when you just want to enjoy some pure Rudd.
- Rating: 3.5 out of 5 starsRudd is perfectly cast as an impossibly honest brother who innocently, but agreeably, disrupts the various lives of his three sisters. Our Idiot Brother is both sweet and amusing, if not particularly funny. It tends to meander a bit, but greatly benefits from an attractive and immensely likable cast. Banks, as one of Rudd’s sisters, is a particular standout.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsThe cast makes this movie work! Paul Rudd is Lebowski reborn!
- Rating: 1.5 out of 5 starsIt is the role Paul Rudd was born to play. He doesn't even have to act, not that he ever does. The rest of the cast id cute but not enough to carry the movie.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsGreat movie from start to finish. The cast is incredible and the movie is super well written and executed. You can never go wrong with Paul Rudd who is exceptional throughout.
- Rating: 4.5 out of 5 starsThat was such an endearing movie. Great cast! Free Willie Nelson!
- Rating: 3 out of 5 starsA light-hearted feel good comedy that is carried by Paul Rudd's performance.
- Rating: 3.5 out of 5 starsNed (Paul Rudd) is the eternal optimist, a man who trusts others, believes in the value of telling the truth, and is always willing to give the benefit of the doubt to others. On the other hand, his three sisters (Elizabeth Banks, Zooey Deschanel, Emily Mortimer) think he's an idiot. Our Idiot Brother is a comedy that is unlikely to generate a lot of laughs, but seems content to settle for warm smiles and some good will. The cast, which also includes Steve Coogan, Rashida Jones and T.J. Miller, is uniformly excellent and the dialogue feels real throughout. Granted, it's not the most memorable movie and it does seem to lose its way at times, but it is an enjoyable watch and you might just learn a thing or two from the incorrigible Ned.
