    Boring but hey, but representation.

A most interesting film. The granting of same sex marriage came with the same perils of straight marriage, including child care and the eternal question of who is the better parent. At first, I thought Luke Adams was a distant parent whose attitude towards Billy Porter, his husband, was that of a zillion cinematic barely present dads. Then I thought that Billy Porter was a zillion cinematic angry mates, feeling ignored and undervalued. The actor's realistic portrayals make this film the jewel that it is. The story may be old, the situation predictable, but the actors make you care about them in the here and now. It's easy to characterize this movie as being about child raising, but it is just as much about a primary relationship that has changed while they were becoming parents. The families and the friends, especially Phylicia Rashad and Andrew Rannels were wonderful, warm, real life portraits of people trying to help while also being honest with people they loved. Deftly and delicately directed.

This was a well-acted movie and I am glad it exists for representation and that I saw it. Gabriel was a rather unsympathetic and selfish character, however, and the song during the credits was awful. The supporting cast, including Andrew Ranells, Phylicia Rashad and Kate Burton, was a highlight of the film.

A compelling and very contemporary story told beautifully. Excellent performances, wonderful cinematography, fantastic direction.

Started out as a queer turn of “Kramer vs. Kramer” till it’s gotten remarkably deeper with mesmerizing drama and passionate vision uplifted by the main pair’s respective tour-de-force performances. (B+)

I was pretty engaged. Afterwards I thought "I've seen this story before." Maybe I've seen Billy Porter on too many talk shows being "fierce," but the performance left a bad taste in my mouth.

Our Son is a 2023 American crime drama film directed by Bill Oliver 👦🏻 Meh, it passed the time. Just. 😐 👍🏼👎🏼 When his husband Gabriel files for divorce, Nicky fights for custody of their 8-year-old son Owen, as he struggles to come to terms with what it means to love someone and what it means to be a father.
