Overboard

Hawn and Russell make a cute couple, and Overboard has a fair amount of charm. Like a lot of movies these days, it takes this one too long to end, but up until the last 20 minutes or so, it is a moderately entertaining, old-fashioned formula comedy.

Why [Kurt Russell] wouldn`t simply leave [Goldie Hawn] alone is just one of the film`s flaws.

Kurt Russell abuses Goldie Hawn into becoming a better, more caring woman? Who thinks this stuff is funny? Lots of people, unfortunately.

While the prospect of watching Miss Hawn play a rude, nasty socialite is appealing, and even the transformation to homebody is a funny idea, Overboard winds up taking things too far.

A warm and funny movie.

If there's an amnesia movie worse than Overboard, it slips my mind.

This popular piece of piffle from director Garry Marshall (who made his career in piffle) mainly stays afloat thanks to the presence of Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell.

...a bizarre setup that's employed to mostly watchable and genial effect...

It's fairly commonplace in '80s comedies to design stories that can't end believably, but this setup has a particularly nerve-wracking pace.
