Oz the Great and Powerful
audience Reviews
, 56% Audience Score- Rating: 2 out of 5 starsFranco phoned it in like the 2011 Oscars. The generic-brand “Wicked” film we’ve had at home for over a decade, has now been forgotten by the lucky majority of the public. From the choice to exclude musical numbers to the decision to over rely on CGI instead of practical effects, this film seems to ignore the aspects that audiences love so much about the original film adaptation of “The Wizard of Oz”. Its CGI is already showing some age, but it has a painted effect style that allows it to hold up better than most of its contemporaries. With a prioritization of shots that would look great in 3D, it is very much a product of its time down to the miscasting of James Franco and Mila Kunis as the leads.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsI am sad, I remember the scene of this movie, all the sorrows and pains go away. I find the purpose of living by watching this movie, love you actor James Franco.
- Rating: 3.5 out of 5 starsI really liked this movie as a kid, so it was really nice to rewatch this. I love how colorful this movie is. The story is really fun and the endfight is great. Oz was really annoying and unlikeable sometimes and the CGI is good, but sometimes it looks bad.
- Rating: 2.5 out of 5 starsIt did absolutely nothing for me. It failed to reach the heights it was attempting to reach. James Franco was an odd choice for the role of Oz.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 starsThe movie severely falls falt in fun and whimsy. The whole film feels soulless and you can sense a lack of true passion behind it. All the characters feel very one noteish and lacking. We're told that one of the most iconic villains of all time has become that way because she was broken-hearted from a man she only knew for one day. If you love oz and/or fantasy I absolutely would not recommend this poorly executed film.
- Rating: 0.5 out of 5 starsI couldn’t in good conscience send anyone, in any state of mind, toward this nonsense. Avoid at all costs.
- Rating: 0.5 out of 5 starsIt’s soooooooo bad 😩
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsGreat family movie! Its so much better than I remembered. First time rewatching since it first came out. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
- Rating: 3 out of 5 starsIn Oz, nothing is what it seems. Oz the Great and Powerful is a 2013 American fantasy adventure film directed by Sam Raimi 🌀 Not bad, but not my favourite either 😉 It’s ok, but I feel mixed about this one 😉 I’d recommend it if you like this genre, but if not then probably give it a miss 👍🏼👎🏼 Oscar Diggs, a small-time circus illusionist and con-artist, is whisked from Kansas to the Land of Oz where the inhabitants assume he's the great wizard of prophecy, there to save Oz from the clutches of evil.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 starsWatched *Oz the Great and Powerful* again after being blown away by it as a teenager, and while it’s still entertaining, I can’t help but notice the flaws now. It’s decent as a prequel, with a story that works well enough, but it doesn’t come close to the charm of the 1939 classic. The origin story of the Wicked Witch didn’t sit right with me—it felt a bit off and unnecessary. Also, the heavy use of CGI takes away some of the magic. It looks cool in parts, but it’s overdone, making it feel less timeless and more like a product of its time. That said, it’s still a fun movie to throw on when you want something easy to watch under a blanket. I didn’t always love some of the creative choices, but overall, it’s decent enough for what it is. Not great, not terrible—just okay.
