Whether “Nightmare” will remain a surprisingly artful aberration within a generally despised subgenre, or prove a harbinger of that category’s ongoing redemption, is as yet anyone’s guess.

It’s pure copyrightsploitation nonsense, a fact that even the film itself is aware of, and as that it delivers an appropriately bonkers ride that you’re either on board with or you’re not, even with all its strengths and weaknesses.

Forget everything you’ve ever seen or heard about the boy who never grew up.
