Surprisingly original twist on the Buddy movie with excellent performances from supporting actresses as well as the lead.

Ria e Lena são irmãs. Ria quer se tornar uma dublê profissional. Lena queria ser artista plástica, mas largou de mão. Tudo começa a mudar quando elas conhecem Salim, o filho médico de Raheela, que começa a namorar Lena. Ria não concorda e passa a tentar sabotar o namoro da irmã. O principal interesse deste filme é ter como protagonistas duas mulheres muçulmanas e independentes. E aí temos todos os costumes deste grupo. Porém, como comédia, o filme fracassa. O elenco se sai muito bem, principalmente Priya Kansara, que faz Ria, e Ella Bruccoleri e Seraphina Beh, como suas amigas do colégio. Mas, sinceridade, o roteiro não ajuda. Erram o ponto da piada. Nas piadas visuais, como o golpe que Ria tenta dar e sempre falha, o filme se sai melhor.

“So you’re doing a Jane Austen…” English director Nida Manzoor’s British martial arts action-comedy film Polite Society (2023) is quite funny and crazy energetic. Manzoor’s direction is frenetic and leans into absurdist humor. The comedy really worked for me as did the sister drama. I just wish the action choreography was better and more intense. The dance sequence at the end is very impressive. Writer Nida Manzoor’s script is upbeat, hilarious, creative, and playful. It’s not the most original film ever for sure, but it’s got such a hysterical look at modern feminism, sisterhood, friendship, and family responsibilities. Polite Society feels inspired by Crazy Rich Asian, Booksmart, Everything Everywhere All At Once, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, Bride & Prejudice, and Bend It Like Beckham. It’s certainly a fun mixture of styles. Priya Kansara is hysterical as the angsty teenager Ria Khan, who wants to be a stuntwoman. I liked her big personality and wild line delivery. She’s quite charming. Her main dance is even more impressive than her fight scenes. Ritu Arya is sweet and very engaging as the big sister Lena Khan. Nimra Bucha is a scream as the mean rich lady Raheela Shah, who wants to set up Lena and Salim to marry. She’s so judgemental and cruel. Akshay Khanna is so goofy as the momma’s boy Salim Shah. Seraphina Beh’s Clara, Ella Bruccoleri’s Alba, and Shona Babayemi’s Kovacs are great as Ria’s pals. Shobu Kapoor’s worried mother Fatima Khan is very funny. Jeff Mirza’s Rafe Khan is also amusing as Ria’s father. I appreciate Eunice Huthart voicing a cameo as herself, since she’s Ria’s hero. Editor Robbie Morrison’s kinetic cuts are fast and stylish. With sharper cuts, the punches and kicks would have looked like they hit harder. Cinematographer Ashley Connor’s striking framing, bright colors, and flashy lighting look awesome. Production designer Simon Walker’s fancy sets look great like Mandy Sorrin’s lavish set decorations. Composers Tom Howe and Shez Manzoor’s plucky score is as playful as the dialogue. PC Williams’ colorful outfits look gorgeous. In short, Polite Society is very fun and worth a watch. It’s a very quick 104 minutes.

I'm just not found of watching such a movies, it wasn't that amazing, I was just not into it

I went into Polite Society not knowing what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised. It’s like Bollywood version of some of typical action movies we see. Also if you’re from an immigrant, family like me, you’ll see some familiar dynamics.

Simply incredible, I didn't expect the ending of this movie. The portrayal of their brotherhood is amazing, something truly enviable. The capacity of this film is immense, it is something that is perhaps more expected in a very touching way. It's so completely strange in a good and contemporary way with this generation.

Great soundtrack, good cast and a unique plot. Love the style and the clothing is stunning. I feel the script can be a bit rigid and simple in parts but that’s partly due to the teen main characters so understandable, but some lines could have been slightly better written. Overall a great film that leaves you feeling good and definitely recommended :)

Just awful stuff, if it had a better crew this could of been a banger.

Absolutely brilliant film. Very well written and acted. You do have to accept that it is both fantastic and fantastical at the same time. Best film I saw last year, and for several years before.

Loved it, The Indian motif was fun and felt natural to me. Fun movie.
