I really enjoyed this movie. It felt familiar until it didn't. I was surprised by its pace and the development of certain characters. The sound was good, I enjoy sound tracks that elevate the viewing experience. The acting was great. Aaron was so kind, but that quiet reserve had an explosive righteous anger brimming inside, I was feeling for him and cheering him. The directing was great too. Total surprise some of the scenes, odd car angles and weird camera position that added to the tension in some scenes, but never forced on you and it back out when the time was right to allow us to be observers and not in the action the whole time. All in all, way better than I thought it was going to be when I clicked play. Nice job Netflix.

Better than this sort of thing usually is, but it is still very much this sort of thing. I’m surprised to see so much critical praise for it.

Great action movie. It kept us engaged from beginning to end. I definitely recommend this movie.

Could’ve Been Netflix's First Blood—But they wimped Out Rebel Ridge had all the ingredients to be a modern-day Rambo: a wronged veteran, a corrupt police force, and a broken system begging for reckoning. But instead of delivering the gritty, cathartic justice the setup promised, it slams on the brakes and tries to play it safe. Aaron Pierre gives a solid performance and the tension is there—but where’s the payoff? (Spoiler: there is none.) We watch a Marine trained for war get pushed and pushed... and then he doesn’t fight back when he clearly can? It's all restraint, no release. The bad guys barely get what's coming. And for a story this heavy, that’s not justice—it’s just a letdown. The setup and early story are great. There’s even a real-world case eerily similar—where a veteran had thousands of dollars taken by a police department for no reason. But instead of channeling that injustice into something raw and powerful, Rebel Ridge just whimpers out. This could’ve been First Blood for our era. Instead, it just edges you and never finishes. A huge missed opportunity.

A film that revives the idea that men don't need to be violent all the time, shows us that men can control themselves and explode at the right time, but they need to be prepared for violence when necessary. How much films like this were missing.

Rebel ridge was very good until the ending. The entire movie was 5 star until the last 5 minutes when I give it a 1 star. I can’t believe how badly it ended. I don’t think I would have spent over an hour and a half watching it if I had known it would have such a poor ending.

Making an action star out of Aaron Pierre, Rebel Ridge finds Jeremy Saulnier crafting another taut and tense thriller.

Being an exceptional and intelligent representation of corruption within police units, this movie provided an immersive, multifaceted experience that complemented well-thought technicalities with gripping action. There was a mysterious air to every scene, extending from both the tense interactions the protaganist engaged in with other principal characters to the dim-lit ambiances that hallmarked some of the most memorable climaxes in the film itself. Overall, I can only give this film a 10/10 or A* rating, with this soul-striking performance being one of the few movies in the action genre that I can comfortably allocate an overall 97%. I have provided a more detailed analysis that describes how I reached my conclusion below: - Coherence and fluidity: 95%. The production was inherently jagged at times to conform with the genre although this occassionally compromised minor contextual details. - Acting and performance: 100%. The acting was exceptional, there is nothing I can scrutinize about it. - Content and layering of themes: 100%. The technical details surrounding the corruption of the police department supplemented the overarching theme of "resistance to disparity" commendably. - Elevation of awareness: 100%. The production raised awareness of key issues surrounding current global dynamics in an insightful and unique way. - Individuality: 100%. The movie was one of the most unique I have watched in its genre. In conclusion, I can only recommend this movie with absolute fervour, evidenced by the dexterity that underlied the breathtaking nature of this performance. A rare piece to enjoy in cinema, following the route of a swindled marine investigating the various theft crimes a struggling police force engaged in to survive in a withering environment.

A derivative but passable thriller about police corruption in a small southern town. The film was well cast; even at 75 Don Johnson still exudes a sort of 'energy' (not unlike Tom Cruise) - not all actors have that quality. Btw there were several good cops in the movie as well. Overall, Rebel Ridge felt a bit inadequate for the big screen but works perfectly well as a "what should we watch tonight" streaming option.

A good movie with an interesting plot but it falls short in the action department. It's a mix of Rambo and Jack Reacher. The acting is pretty good.
