Rumour has it was a slight disappointment. I expected it to be more funny but was slightly weird and the storyline was upsetting. While the ending was happy, in reality it was a mediocre film .

Rumor Has It that this Rob Reiner romcom is wholly contrived without any semblance of humor or genuine sentiment - the rumors are true.

The plot is so stupid. This is trying to be all meta with The Graduate and the book and past mirroring now but it's told in such a messy, dialouge heavy way that it's hard to follow. Than the fact Costner sleeps with the daughter after sleeping with the other two is just...yuck. It's such a bad idea on top of the Graduate subplot and the love triangle with Ruffalo. If you take all that out your just left with a standard run of the mill romcom which is still better than this weird borderline incest story with nothing clever to say. And this whole thing could've been avoided if she just would've asked her Dad about it like she did at the end. It's so stupid. The music is boring, generic, and forgettable. Nothing else is that good about it either. Aniston just has one tone of voice this entire time, has no chemistry with Ruffalo or Costner, and is just boring to watch. Costner also is just sleepwalking through this and him and Aniston have NO CHEMISTRY AT ALL. It's so boring to watch them and that's 50% of the film. Than the humor is flat soooo many times in this with maybe a handful of chuckles. Ruffalo isn't bad and probably the best thing here. Too bad he's all but forgotten for most of this. Everyone else is just alright or forgettable. It feels like two different films. The generic romcom stuff and graduate subplot. and the Costner & Aniston Romance in the middle just don't fit together at all. The direction also is just so basic and I can't believe this is Rob Reiner behind all this. What the heck happened man...Skip This. This is trying to follow in the lines of movies that are meta from Scream to Play It Again Sam, but never in the lsightest can make it work.

Quite the bore. Weird, too. It seems they came up with a mildly interesting connection to 'The Graduate' (haven't yet read or watched, fwiw) but forgot to add any further details. Even at just 1hr 30mins, this drags a bit. I just don't think this has enough meat on the bones to merit existing. Jennifer Aniston is likeable enough to stop events grinding to a halt, at least. Kevin Costner, Mark Ruffalo, Richard Jenkins and Shirley MacLaine appear alongside Aniston to make the cast list look good. Honestly, those onscreen are this flick's only redeeming factor, unfortunately. The rest of 'Rumor Has It…' is either bland or bizarre, if not both really.

Am I supposed to like a movie about a degen cheater family who then has another degen kid who cheats?

Yep, Five Stars! Intelligently written, directed, and acted. I was quite shocked to see this film panned, particularly when hackneyed rom-coms get accolades. "Rumor Has It" takes the bold step of recognizing that women too, have rogue sexual impulses. Thus, three generations of women in the same family have put the moves on Beau (Kevin Costner), betraying either their kin or their betrothed. For me, everything about the movie signaled lightness, humor, and fun (especially Shirley MacLaine as Grandma!) such that I would not have imagined anyone could take it to be literally sanctioning any given behavior. (Frankly, even if it were, it would not be distorting real life very much--just look at the divorce rate.) Yet based on some reviews, one would think the film invites you to laugh at torturing animals. Per the current zeitgeist, some see Sarah (Jennifer Aniston) as a Me-Too victim, never mind that it is she, not Beau, who plants the first hot kisses, and then fully owns what ensues. Others manage to discern innuendos of incest even though Beau's possible paternity is roundly discounted and directly mocked. And others couldn't get past Jeff (Mark Ruffalo) taking back his fiancee after her fog-headed romp with Beau. Agreed, doing so might not sit well in a simplistic drama. But here, it's a thematically satisfying resolution to all that came before. Plus, how about the idea that he loves her? To me, the film's detractors are off, particularly if their critiques are "moral." What *I* saw was a wry and charming comedy, the product of an A-list cast and director.

Cute plot device. Otherwise, terrible film, terrible acting. Lucky that Shirley McLaine was there, but not enough to make up for the rest.

This story is so ridiculous that I would say if you actually enjoyed this or just simply think that it is "cute" or whatever...not bad , I really think that you should seek professional help.I can't believe that I had to sit and watch this garbage.
