I have yet to watch this movie and I will. But I am giving it all five stars because I just read all the reviews and it is pathetic that anyone would even speak of the accident that occured during filming. You didn't read all about Lee's unfortunate shooting during filming of The Crow in any of the reviews. Why this? It's politics and BS. Sounds like the movie is not that great but time will tell. Meanwhile, shame on any reviewer who has anything to say other than the quality of any piece of cinema.

A strong film with a strong ending, it's not about action or good and evil here. There are no pure heroes or absolute villains

A solid western with a convincing feel of the late 1800s. Masterful and beautiful cinematography with attention to detail in every scene. Superb and convincing mood-lighting that masterfully recreates the ambience of the period, and flavorful dialogue peppered with bygone expressions of the times. Great locations and backdrops, a decent storyline, good acting and stunt work, and plenty of assorted gruff-looking characters displaying an interesting array of costuming choices. And Baldwin’s antihero performance gives Eastwood a good run for his money. This film manages to transcend all the tragic baggage of its making and stands solidly on its own merits.

Obviously it's difficult for many critics and viewers to judge this film on it's artistic merits. To be expected I suppose. But as a lover of Westerns, I found this film to be quite well done. The story isn't wholly unique, but the film is executed with beautiful visuals and music. The acting is pretty solid too, especially Josh Hopkins performance.

    Pretty good script and visuals.

The cinematography is the absolute best part of a western that is way too long, where a classic story with bounty hunters chasing murder convicted boy and his elder helper is flawed by a number of sideshow scenes with no plot driving intentions, what so ever.

Rust is a film that follows Clint Eastwood's Unforgiven as a sort of reflection on film/story tropes. It is not a complex film. It is a film JAMMED with sub stories and character studies. In fact, as it is, it plays as sort of a 2 hour Lord of the Rings set in American western lights. It probably could have made an excellent streaming series and, I would think that the critics who attempt to dismiss the movie as terrible and "old" would, in a streaming series format, be able to see past whatever shallowness engulfs their respective capacities because, as I've been trying to express: Rust is actually a well considered story that manages, as it is, to engage the willing viewer in an artistically crafted exploration of modern Americanism. The characters: there are some bad guys, there are some good guys, there are many terrified guys and, there are ladies who are independent, needy, and everything in between. It's a much better film - or, at the least, attempt at making a smart and well crafted film - than many will ever credit it for being. All of that stated, I can't say I really blame any of the harsh critics for mercilessly shredding a project that had not any business allowing someone to be killed by ... A BULLET????????... during filming. There simply isn't an excuse for that. Ever. I does NOT make sense that it happened. So much does it not make sense that I wonder if it did. Nevertheless, the IDEA itself is beyond comprehension. RIP to the deceased.

Alec Baldwin has become a horrible actor. This movie would have been much better with a different lead.

I don’t think Alec Baldwin fit the part. Aside from that it was a good storyline and there was sufficient action. If you’re a cowboy movie fan, it’s very enjoyable.
