Satanic Panic

[These] three women are a trio of energetic magnetism who leap off the screen, Stardust utilizing them to chant an incantation of blood, guts, friendship and feminism I openly adored.

It won't convert any non-believers, but this horror comedy is self-aware enough to deliver the right mixture of laughs, gross-outs and demon-tinged ridiculousness to please its intended audience of gorehounds and genre geeks.

The feature lacks the deft touch required to make disembowelments and virgin sacrifices actually seem amusing, although gore-hounds will certainly get their fill.

It doesn't push any envelopes, and pushing envelopes is what it's all about.

Ultimately though, "Satanic Panic" just has its handful of cleverly gory scenes and its general enthusiasm for classic horror to recommend it. It falls just devilishly short of being good.

The movie stands out from contemporary horror for its lack of pretension and its simple commitment to inventing ways for pretty people to get slaughtered.

Shot with a minuscule budget in just eighteen days, it’s as inspired as anything from early Sam Raimi and Peter Jackson. Blending pratfalls and body horror with sexploitation, Stardust finds the satire in Satan.

A few years down the line, Chelsea Stardust’s feature directorial debut is still a lot of fun and cult mayhem with solid performances and some good blood.

Satanic Panic is one of the rare films that manages to find the right balance, in that it's a zippily scripted movie with some great dialogue... and buckets and buckets of bloody good fun.

The film embraces lunacy and confidently runs with it.
