Saturn 3

This movie is awesomely stupid, totally implausible from a scientific viewpoint, and a shameful waste of money.

The type of production that had immense potential, but just couldn’t figure out a way to make something from its curiously adequate resources.

Though flawed in not focusing on the taut science fiction triangle; references to Hector, Troy, and the original fight over a woman accent the man versus man, man versus nature, and man versus himself conflicts.

[Donen] has not made a good film, certainly, but he has not managed to make an entirely impersonal one, either.

The film assembles an amazing armada of above-the-line talent for a passionless, murky and uninspired Adam and Eve in space parable.

For all its flaws -- and most of the flaws involve the cast -- and the fact that we're seeing a shortened version of the original movie, Saturn 3 is still something of a major achievement.

It's easy to see why Saturn 3 has achieved a certain type of cult appeal over the years- it has an incredible cast, an interesting killer robot running amok, some cool ideas, and a beautiful score by famed composer Elmer Bernstein.

Saturn 3 can be beautiful and impressive in scope, ambition and design but it's almost impossible to watch Saturn 3 without thinking of how much better it could have been and might have been had the film been better executed.

An unfocused and dull meshing of ideas that never add up to a coherent or riveting science fiction thriller.

[Blu-ray Review] "Saturn 3" will be most of interest for camp enthusiasts and fans of all things sci-fi. A welcome addition to serious Blu-ray collections and supporters of Scream Factory's outstanding work.
