Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie

This isn't a cause for alarm: Bikini Bottom will live to see another day, and so will SpongeBob and his pals. But The Sandy Cheeks Movie is only a so-so day at the beach.

For general viewers, it may not pack as much of an emotional punch, but like SpongeBob himself, it’s thoroughly absorbing.

It’s not as inspired as grown-ups might want, but innocuous enough for the kids.

Fun enough escape for any fans of the Spongebob universe.

Sandy Cheeks gets a chance to shine in a supremely silly rescue mission with SpongeBob and friends in tow. Goofy musical interludes and a bonkers plot keep the chuckles coming for young fans and die-hard followers.

It’s a great example of how even a merely standard SpongeBob movie can still be made with energy and some inventive kid-friendly ideas.
