This movie is a mix of a romantic comedy and a drama. It’s about a regular student who falls in love with the valedictorian girl right after they graduate. The story is simple, and the movie falls somewhere in between. It doesn’t really have a clear ending to any of its issues or deal with any of its issues in much depth. In a way, it’s not a coming-of-age story or a romantic comedy. It’s the beginning of something, no matter what happens next. A few beautiful scenes with romantic and nostalgic tones. A bit flat overall, but it’s worth a watch.

I want to live in the 80s and have no job other than to go out with Ione Skye.

It's always boombox season 🙌🏻 🔊 Classic Crowe film that drags every emotion out of you that can possibly be had. Cusack's best performance I can remember and I only wish there were Ione Skye's at my all-boys high school 😕 I will now have Peter Gabriel stuck in my head for the rest of the week #InYourEyes

Lloyd Dobler is such a great role model. I've never seen a compelling portrayal of a guy succeeding at everything he does before, particularly while not being a macho dickhead.

Pretty standard coming of age tale with a young John Cusack providing the suave charm. A short and reasonable rom com. Watched on DVD.

A very enjoyable watch with tons of laughs. Could've gone without the implied sex though.

Sweet movie. Not sure how accurate this was at portraying high school or just post-HS teens, but it's pretty in-keeping w/ 80's movies. Cusack is always good. Taylor is good here as well. I didn't even recognize Adlon. Crowe did a solid job, esp. for his age and inexperience. Piven was lame, but... So much depends on Skye's performance, but I found it pretty avg. And I just did not see the reason for the dad's storyline turning out like that. Was Crowe just tired of the helicopter parent pushing for the kid's academic excellence for the ivy league career scenario? 3 stars

"I can't work for that corporation" in reference to the military is awesome. The side story of the corrupt dad is pretty weak and so weird for a movie like this.

I've been watching 80's films lately. I stumbled into this one and was surprised at how good it was. Definitely a cut above the rest in its genre. More sincere, real characters, and quite charming.

One of the worst films I’ve watched in a long time. There’s no way the ratings are this high.
