Scream (1996) Still a Magnificent Slasher After Almost Thirty Years without Aging (11,816 –07 Jul 2025 – by Claudio Carvalho) In Woodsboro, California, teenager Casey (Drew Barrymore) is alone at home preparing popcorn to watch a movie on video. Out of the blue, she receives a mysterious phone call that threatens her and soon she finds her boyfriend Steve (Kevin Patrick Walls) slaughtered near her swimming pool. A masked man attacks and kills her, and her parents find her body hanging on a tree. The next morning, Casey and Steve become the subject at the high school where they studied. The schoolmate Sidney (Neve Campbell) arrives at school and the TV reporter Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox) interviews her. But Sidney has a beef with Gale since she wrote a book saying that her mother was a promiscuous woman and Sidney accused a wrong man. Soon Sidney is called by the killer on the eve of a year of her mother’s death, and she accuses her boyfriend Billy Loomis (Skeet Ulrich), who had invaded her house. But the police prove he is innocent, and Billy is released from jail. Her best friend Tatum (Rose McGowan) invites Sidney to stay with her, and her brother Deputy Dewey (David Arquette) protects them. But soon the killer finds her. What will happen to Sidney? “Scream” (1996) is still a magnificent slasher after almost thirty years without aging. Directed by Wes Craven, the original story by Kevin Williamson is gore, funny and highly entertaining. Revisiting “Screen” in 2025, the beauties of Drew Barrymore, Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox and Rose McGowan are highlighted, and the viewer will certainly note how gorgeous they were in 1996. The plot is intriguing, and the viewer guesses who might be the serial-killer. The jokes with the scary movies is a pleasure to cinephiles fans of the genre. The conclusion is also very well resolved. My vote is eight. Title (Brazil): “Pânico” ("Panic") Blog: https://maniacosporfilme.wordpress.com/

Excelente! Revitalizou o subgênero slasher com sua metalinguagem, trama envolvente, personagens carismáticos e um assassino icônico.

Scream understands better than any other horror film: people want to have FUN at a horror movie. Not too dark, not too much gore, and very much focused on upbeat scenes with a cast of charismatic, yet charming actors. Although it’s a slasher, Scream is a very re-watchable thrill with a historic plot twist.

The film that made scary movies cool again. The movie is almost 30 years old and still holds up as a great movie by today’s standards.

From beginning to end, Scream is filled with tension and clever misdirection. The late, great Wes Craven proved he was well ahead of his time with this genre-defining slasher. Killing off a major star like Drew Barrymore in the opening scene and revealing not one, but two killers were bold, “rule-breaking” moves that shocked audiences and revitalized horror. My personal MVP? Matthew Lillard. He delivers an unhinged, high-energy performance as a mind-twisted high schooler, stealing nearly every scene he’s in. He manages to be funny, unnerving, and strangely sympathetic all at once. His line delivery in the final act is unforgettable. Film: Scream (1996) Top-Performance: Matthew Lillard as Stu Macher Top Quote: “Movies don’t make psychos, movies make psychos more creative!” -Billy Loomis

The flick that saved 90’s horror and made the term “slasher” universal! Wes Craven made this movie specifically for us horror fanatics and we eternally love him for it!
