George and Chappell are faithful to the spirit of Christie – there won’t be many viewers who are able to guess the identity of the murderer before the final denouement.

For Agatha Christie and golden age mystery fans, See How They Run’s derivative nature is its appeal. The film isn’t doing anything new but it’s not trying to, the whole point is to colour within the same lines, but maybe use a few different shades.

The film is no match for Rian Johnson’s Knives Out, the hit responsible for the big-screen revival of murder mystery spoofs. But between the laughs are some smart observations about the art and ethics of telling a story.

I have no idea how an A-list cast like this was hoodwinked into participating in this wink-wink nudge-nudge snooze fest.

At least as enjoyable as Knives Out, See How They Run crackles with invention and high spirits. We pray for its success and look forward eagerly to another “Constable Stalker Mystery”.

See How They Run starts out as a fleet comic mystery, but it quickly loses it fizz and turns into flat champagne.

This jaunty comedy thriller is the closest we are likely to get to a film version of The Mousetrap – but it scuttles all over the place.

When talking about whodunits in his opening narration, Leo remarks: “if you’ve seen one, you’ve seen them all.” But that doesn’t make a good whodunit any less enjoyable. And See How They Run is definitely enjoyable.

This might be the biggest surprise treat of the year. But let's not jump to conclusions.

It's hard to pull off a great whodunit. While See How They Run doesn't quite accomplish this,, it's at least a very fun whodunit that also plays with the style of the form and adds in elements to stay engaging...
