Seriously Red

Boylan has the creamy skin and bright blue eyes to shine in the Dolly moments. The musical numbers, presented with sweetness and sincerity, are a lot of fun. The real life scenes are not as lively or effectively staged.

The exploration is deep, very deep, so much so that one could easily imagine a much darker and edgier film could have been the result. As it is, "Seriously Red" sneaks up on you.

Even at its bluntest, “Seriously Red” draws a lot of heat and light from Boylan, whose Red enjoys embodying the casual confidence, folksy wisdom and bombshell bravura of one of the world’s most beloved entertainers.

“Seriously Red” disarms and delights as a sensationally spirited concoction that neatly balances unfettered outrageousness and unabashed sentimentality.

A film that doesn’t quite convince you to care enough about its characters or what they care about.

It’s great fun and a welcome reminder of what we have been missing since those high-camp hits of 30 years ago.

The performances are entertaining and the story is one that most of us can relate to. Is it groundbreaking? No. But if you are looking for a movie that will make you laugh, feel good, and you enjoy Dolly Parton, this will be an enjoyable film for you.

“We need more Dollys in the world,” is the message of this raucous but hugely enjoyable comedy, which, at the same time, reminds us that there is -- and can only be -- one Dolly Parton.

Seriously Red is the kind of movie we should be getting instead of bland biopics.

Not as sharp as it should be... but it's got a lot of sweet and really wonderful scenes.
