this was an enjoyable watch but also very strange. It's interesting that this movie is so mainstream because I genuinely felt like it would fall more into the "cult classic" category? message did not age that well but expected from a teen 2000s movie.

The Poster Child for teen movies of the 90's...for better or for worse. The music isn't bad. It's a mix of 90's pop songs, an amazingly catchy end credit song in Kiss Me (easily the best thing in this. Too bad you gotta wait till the movie is over to hear it), and a odd mix of what sounds like Stewart Copeland Spyro the Dragon type music tracks as well, it's so odd at times and as a whole doesn't really mesh well but is memorable in a dated way. Everything else is just ok about this. The camerawork is pretty good, and the ending isn't bad. Aside from that though, I struggle to find much good here aside from nostaliga. Freddie isn't the most gifted actor, and Rachel and his chemistry is alright enough I guess. Everyone else is very forgettable and generic 90's teen cliche or for the genre in general. There are some odd moments in this that just really kill any momentum this gets going like the weird art show,or Freddie standing up for her brother to the bullies, or the prom dance montage that goes on forever. It feels so out of left field when it happens and it happens consistently. This also gets quite jumpy at times and it feels like stuff just sort of happens with the bare bone plot points followed. the dialouge though isn't bad at times. Sometimes it's really snappy and among the best of the genre and other times it's just very awkward and clunky. That's really the biggest problem here is consistentcy. I can see why kids would love growing up with this, but this really isn't anything special if you didn't. Most could skip this for something like Clueless.

This movie is about high school kids. It's about a guy who's popular at school. There is a film where he suffers from a fall in reputation and tries to restore it, but accepts it and everything is fine

This is one of my favorite movies that came out when I was a teenager. I'm not sure why the ratings are so low my family and I love it to this day
