As a fan of Godzilla and Hideaki Anno's work as a filmmaker I was thrilled by the movie's retelling of the Godzilla mythos reimagined for a 21st century backdrop. The movie presents a terrible and terrifying take of Godzilla as a giant creature in a very incredible pain gifted with a reactive power of evolution that extends to "godly" proportions as seen in the concept art for the movie. HOWEVER, even for Godzilla fans, the satirical commentary of government ineptitude and bureaucracy in the storytelling, even though they work in a narrative sense, will get die-hard fans and casual viewers feeling bored from the padded runtime.

I really liked how it was about the political crisis that happened in Japan in 2011 and also a Godzilla movie I really liked how it’s actually based off the military trying to defeat Godzilla

This is almost certainly the worst Godzilla film. It’s almost as if the filmmakers wanted to make a political drama but were told they had to make a kaiju movie. But they also had no idea how to make a political drama. Or a Godzilla movie. The whole thing is dreadful on almost every level. This is serious and boring like the american predecessor but with much worse visual effects. The film starts with fifteen minutes of boardroom boredom then a bad CGI goofy looking monster. Then there’s some city smashing and it’s mostly from the right angle but it’s so brief and there is no human story, only the political one and I hate politics. It ignores all previous Godzilla films so could be considered a restart but they also ignore anything that made the Godzilla films popular. The serious political drama combined with goofy visual effects and creature design is so jarring and unengaging, it’s not fun or exciting. Constant talking doesn’t make a good film, the story sucks and it’s not interesting. There is goofy music throughout except for the classic Godzilla soundtrack which is great to hear. It feels more like one of the sixties entries that almost killed the franchise but without the fun and with bad CGI. It’s horribly edited, for example using three shots to unroll a map with military rock drum music blasting, ugh hate it. It’s over 45 minutes until Godzilla as we know him appears just beating the American 2014. The whole film lacks any personality. Just as you think it’s getting better with Godzilla in Tokyo smashing stuff then drive all these trains into him and they spiral into the air like they are trying to stand up. It looks ridiculous. Terrible film.

My favorite Godzilla movie. Creature designs were superb. Best looking Godzilla yet. The art direction and style of the movie created a fresh new look as the latest addition to the franchise.

A spectacular and horrifying remake of the original classic, Shin Godzilla starts from scratch with a brand new mythos that's just as effective in showcasing the horrors of nuclear disaster. A for sure all time greatest when it comes to the franchise.

This movie shows what CGI can do Godzilla takes on multiple forms in this movie and one of the best atomic breath scenes I have seen in the Godzilla franchise I really hope they make a sequel
