Simulant
audience Reviews
, 42% Audience Score- Rating: 2.5 out of 5 starsBlade Runner knock off, but done not nearly as well. As a drama, it lacks focus and an arc. Loosely it is the story of an android uprising against their human overlords, but the characters are mostly horrible and deserve what they get. Amell specifically has been in a number of these direct to video Canadian sci-fis and should know better by now. Philosophically this doesn't make a lot of sense either - you build robots that are indistinguishable from humans, are stronger and faster, and whose limiting software is easily hacked? What could go wrong? And if the only distinguishing feature of the robots is they shutdown on command, does that mean obedient HUMANS should not have rights? There isn't much subtlety here.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars"Simulant" is a little gem in the realm of distopian sci-fi movies, strangely underrated by critics and audience. In this film directed by April Mullen the interaction between humans and androids takes a groundbreaking turn.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsSci-fi is sci-fi. If the offering is not a completely bombastic level mistake, it is good Sci-Fi. Simulant carries a slightly muted tone throughout. That is its only failing, and it does not have much of an effect on the story being told. Solid acting. Good script. No (what the furute is going to be like) filler. What's not to like? Will watch it again in a few months, or when I next come across it down a little further down the road.
- Rating: 2.5 out of 5 starsSimulant wasn't the first or the best to do a film about AI probability and morality - but it wasn't nearly as bad as reviews lead to believe. What would life be life if we could recreate ourselves?
- Rating: 3.5 out of 5 starsFrom Bicentennial Man to I, Robot, with a stop at AI, the same theme is revisited: the possibility of humanity in humanoids. The subject here is familiar, but the treatment isn’t bad—somewhat amateurish, yet sincere.
- Rating: 3.5 out of 5 starsNot top drawer, but not a bad movie at all
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsI rarely give out 5 stars but Great movie anything with Robbie Amell is an excellent movie.
- Rating: 1.5 out of 5 starsMovie needed some more budget, it clearly shows. There’s so much lack of motivation and the world feels dead and empty. I mean why would you send one field agent to go retrieve wanted fugitives? Movie is fine, though.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsIMHO this movie deserves a better rating the most give it credit for. Definitely not a blockbuster & award wining movie but also better then anything you would see on SciFy, more like an Indi version of Bladerunner meets Ex Machina. Apparently they didn't have the budget for different outdoor locales as the "present" as well as the flashbacks were filmed in the winter, not a big deal, just something I noticed. The movie was not big on action though it did have a few tense moments. The story focused mainly on the emotional & moral implications of AI/robots. The beginning hopped around more then I would like & the character development could have used more context. Overall the story was good & everything considered a solid movie, worth a watch.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars....a treasure house of sci adventures rolled into a noir setting with heart. Quality acting, script, and production. I wish there was a series of these like the holiday movies because the story has legs, and the characters to begin a great journey forward.
