Sin City

With a huge, well-chosen cast and the blessing of Miller, who was on set as Rodriguez's co-director, Sin City is a gloriously stylized world unlike anything you've seen before on screen.

For all its astronomical body count, Sin City is brazenly, thrillingly alive.

While Sin City on screen evokes the same feeling of bottomless decadence and dread that the novels do, there is one crucial difference -- you can put the novels down.

This extremely violent movie is NOT for kids.

While the book succeeded in pushing the boundaries of its medium, the film merely feels like a triumph of technology.

A worthwhile piece of eye candy.

For all the fantastic performances on display (along with mostly female flesh), the most essential ingredient Sin City possesses is its willingness to go all in.

Rodriguez and Miller bring the latter's pulpy source material to stunning life, with pops of colour to complement the stark black and white cinematography. The Noir-inspired content means plenty of gender stereotypes, but Willis and Rourke shine.

It's a beautiful looking film but it didn't give me enough to want to ever watch this again. The story was all over the place and kind of boring.

Back when this was initially released, I would have rated this higher but the storylines and dialogue don't hold up well enough for repeat viewing. Visually it is stunning though.
