Slingshot

This shut-in scenario is rivet-gunned by astute, underplayed performances all round.

One of those movies that relies so heavily on its final twist that the rest of the story becomes an afterthought.

It felt more derivative than suspenseful.

Despite its many twists and turns, “Slingshot” shows no signs of life.

It feels like a movie that hates its characters. And hates you too.

The continued cutaways back to Earth effectively de-pressurize Slingshot’s main plotline.



Worst of all, the uninspired sets and modest SFX mean it never even feels like they're in space.

Even if Slingshot often feels like a simple exercise in thriller conventions that’s taken to the stars, it can still be a fun ride.


The script’s smart ideas don’t come together into a satisfying whole — particularly in the movie’s final scene, which presents two possible outcomes for John, and doesn’t give viewers enough to build empathy for or make sense of his final choice.

This could have made a better novel, perhaps, than a movie.
