Slumdog Millionaire

Definitely one of my favorite movies! I loved the story and spirit this movie brought to us. It impressed me a lot. It had a lot of anticipating moments throughout the movie that made you on the edge of your seat for sure. Really sweet movie. Loved it. And if you see it I hope you like it too! 😊

Ganadora de ocho estatuillas en los Oscars 2008, Slumdog Millionaire es una estupenda historia llena de drama, suspenso e intriga. La historia que narra está bien estructurada y hay una conexión estable entre los recuerdos del protagonista y las respuestas que brinda al programa Kaun Banega Crorepati. La película es un viaje por la vida de Jamal mientras intenta probar que no ha hecho trampa en el programa. Lo que vamos viendo es que se trata de alguien que nació en la pobreza, sufrió hambre al punto de robar y su única razón para seguir viviendo es Latika. El amor que siente por ella es lo que lleva a ir lejos y llegar a una meta que él jamás imaginó alcanzar. A pesar de su situación, Jamal no tiene grandes ambiciones y no participa en programa porque realmente quiera ser un millonario. Su capacidad de acertar en todas sus respuestas sorprende a muchos y los flashbacks dan a entender que son cosas pequeñas que Jamal ha oído o visto durante su niñez. Para Jamal es demasiado casual que le hagan pregunta sobre cosas que él ya sabia de antes y pareciera que él ya estuviera predestinado a volverse millonario. La película juega un poco cuando al inicio presenta una pregunta y 4 posibles respuestas para comprender por qué Jamal ha podido llegar tan lejos. Nada más una es acertada al final de la película. Slumdog Millionaire no decepciona en contar una gran historia que la vuelve una gran obra cinematográfica. El resto de la película es también admirable por la dirección llevada a cabo, la producción, la banda sonora y las interpretaciones. Dev Patel dejo una buena primera impresión al ser este su debut actoral en la gran pantalla y por entonces este actor solo había actuado en la serie de televisión Skins. Otro punto es que para ser una película británica, no deja de sentirse como una película hecha en Bollywood y más por el espectacular número musical que transcurre durante los créditos finales. Danny Boyle decidió filmar la película mayormente en la India, se usaron canciones indias en la banda sonora y el guion no descarta el uso del árabe en los diálogos junto al inglés. Danny Boyle supo plasmar el aspecto social y cultural de la India en la película convirtiéndola en una buena representación de la misma. Claro que en la India la película fue criticada por muchos motivos, pero en cierto aspecto ofrece un vistazo a la situación social de ese país como la pobreza. Este es un caso que permaneció vigente en la India a pesar de que ha habido reducciones. No es que Slumdog Millionaire sea una película hecha con fines educativos, pero consigue reflejar una parte de la sociedad india. Todo por medio de una impresionante historia donde alguien en estado de pobreza alcanza un logro que muchos en esa situación no pueden. Eso hace que Slumdog Millionaire sea una película inspiradora y una de las mejores de los años 2000. Mi calificación final para esta película es un 10/10.

A unique twist on the rags to riches storyline with a great storytelling device as we learn about how Slumdog Underdog Jamal is able answer every game show question through different pieces of his tragic youth trying to survive in the severely neglected slums of Mumbai. Yet despite all of this poverty and abuse, the movie still feels like a modern fairytale with all the insane things that happened to young Jamal, only to be destined to win the special contest so he can become a millionaire and reunite with his one true love from childhood. Dev Patel kills it as the lead and the rest of the cast is great too. Some might complain about the negative stereotypes about India (Jamal suffers every textbook Indian tragedy, almost every character is corrupt on some level, and the toilet walk scene felt a bit much). But luckily the movie still feels like this all comes from an emotionally genuine place, trying to raise awareness about the pain, childhood trauma, and all the unpleasant domino effects that come from neglected communities exploited by the modern globalized economy, with all the unpleasant means people will use to survive out of desperation to stay afloat. All expressed visually with some insanely claustrophobic cinematography during the flashbacks of Jamal's childhood.

This movie was absolutely incredible. It felt shockingly real, and there were so many moments that were absolutely gut-wrenching to watch, but it made the movie that much better. I definitely recommend it for drama fans!

Excellent movie. The editing of this movie is brilliant and the way the love story progresses is genius. Great creativity, acting, directing and emotion in this film. My mum was always requesting we watch it and since I did, I can’t stop looking back to it. I would definitely recommend this!

This movie is another one of my favorites, and had an amazing story, and great aesthetics and filming. I don't know how they could make this movie so amazing, because it truly is a masterpiece. Again, the top 5 movies of all time easily. I have already watched this movie around half a dozen times, and am watching it again tonight. I remember my dad showing it to me and my older sister, and me loving it. I watched it for the first time about three years ago, and it's still a great movie. Great job, keep on making amazing movies like this. God bless.

This movie is in my top 5 list. I've watched it no less than 8 times (so far). Decided to watch it again tonight and realized I should have written a review a long time ago. I love EVERYTHING about this movie - the actors selected, the excellent acting, the way it was filmed/produced, the imagery of Mumbai and the culture (absolutely loved the pan-out views), taking us through the different stages of life with the characters, how the storyline is unveiled bit by bit with his answers, then all comes together seamlessly at the end, closing out with the Bollywood dance - just Everything. The characters and their performance is so strong and convincing that it pulls you in and takes you through every emotion with them - you will be sad, happy, laugh, cry, become angry and enraged, and will be on the edge of your seat waiting to see what will happen next. An all around excellent production!
