A well made, but brutally dismal "careful what you wish for/learn to accept the hand you're dealt" morality play with an ending that feels lazily ambiguous. People without real problems will probably get a lot more out of it/be able to withstand it better.

As a music teacher, and someone who is around lots of noise, this film really impacted me. I’m sure I wasn’t the only one thinking “what if this happens to me?”. That lingering question adds a lot of tension and discomfort to this film. What works for this film is its simple premise and linear story that focuses all on the emotional impacts on our main character, Rueben. Director Darius Marder succeeds in making us feel like we are going on the journey with Rueben both physically and emotionally. The pain and isolation Rueben encounters is understood without words needing to be said. The film is an emotional rollercoaster, but I think the ending is brilliant and even if you might not have made the decision Rueben makes, you can’t help but accept it for him and feel relieved.

This movie SUCKED. It was slow, boring, and has major plot holes. I don’t recommend. I kinda wish I didn’t waste my time with this film at all.

The film honestly sucked. It's very slow, but above all doesn't make any sense. I mean, I understand the movie as well as the plot. There are many areas where the film is not logical. It honestly just isn't very good and I was happy when the film was finally over.

A very good film that deserves oscar attention for lead performance.

As someone who has severe hearing loss caused by industrial noise, this film gives a very realistic look at how hearing loss affects the individual. Ruiz Ahmed’s acting as Ruben the drummer is superb. Have a box of tissues handy

Good movie. A bit slow sometimes, and I don't know if the ending satisfied me, but worth a watch!
