Spinning Gold
audience Reviews
, 82% Audience Score- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsIts a true story, based on Neil Bogart's life in the 1970's in the music industry and the rise and fall of Casablanca Records. Fascinating story, about his talented search for artists and discovering many popular musicians who he brought to fame and fortune.
- Rating: 4.5 out of 5 starsMostly underrated movie. Perhaps only to explain with expectations of receiving an historical precisely copy of an area of musical culture that isn't quite explainable in a rational way. That's isn't what the movie will present. It shows precisely the common sense of a unique cultural movement.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsThe movie is a bit topical however the critics have been a bit too harsh in their reviews. The movie does bring to life the character who plays the part quite well although admittedly rather superficially. We all knew these songs but many I bet didn’t know the man behind them, even today. The story of what this man did in his short life along with the nostalgia and the knitting together of these great stars makes watching the film rather satisfying.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsI thought it was fabulous. A great story well told and fabulous music. It was incredibly sad in parts , particularly the end when he died so very young. He never really got to enjoy the years of hard work and stress that paid off in the end. I would recommend this film.
- Rating: 0.5 out of 5 starsUm. This movie is horrible. I literally made this account to tell you this movie is so bad. Like the Blatant use of AI for the backgrounds? I haven't seen that bad of CGI for years. And the horrible offensive remakes to the music which this movie is literally ALL ABOUT?? You guys ruined the whole meaning and how passing this music down to new generations. Why does the music in this movie sound like C R A P pop remake versions of these classic-classic songs. I'm so ANGRY. Also like no cohesion. Honestly so disappointed because this could have been SO good.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 starsThe true story was better than this rerun. None of the original artists so the music sounds dull and uninspiring. I fell asleep.
- Rating: 2.5 out of 5 starsSpinning Gold is a musical biopic starring Jeremy Jordan as record producer Neil Bogart who discovered and produced many great artists like Donna Summer, Parliament, KISS, the Isley Brothers and many more. This movie starts off not so strong and has this cheesy tone to it that was unsettling and honestly made me second guess my decision in watching this movie but Jeremy Jordan steals the show 1000% as his acting got better throughout the movie and as the story progressed, I got more invested and intrigued into the movie and the story of the downfalls of Casablanca Records and then the rise of the most successful independent record label. I do feel like the movie is a bit too long as many scenes have musical acts from Jeremy Jordan since he is a very good singer, but they just felt unnecessary. This story just like many others is generic and the writing is just not great. The direction that was taken in this movie was in the right direction but there were definitely some missteps, like some scenes being too long or like in the first act when it was very quick paced and rushed. Overall, Spinning Gold is a generic biopic that does have some interesting plot points about the rise of Casablanca Records, and does have a great lead in Jeremy Jordan but other than that, this is just a movie you put on when you fold some laundry. C+
- Rating: 3.5 out of 5 starsWatch it if you feel nostalgic about the 1970s music scene. The music sequences don't sound bad but the actors casted for Gladys Knight & Donna Summer look nothing like them at all which was a letdown. Has a lite TV movie if the week vibe that some viewers will find cheesy...but I was ok with it.
- Rating: 0.5 out of 5 starsbad dialogue, incredibly bad casting, bad acting, wrong clothing and wrong hair, pale compared to reality, flat, superficial … like the queen movie too clean, polished for a generation that has not grown any balls.
