Spirited

This modern musical take on the Christmas classic Dickensian tale, “A Christmas Carol” stars Will Ferrell and Ryan Reynolds, which elevates it beyond the typical Christmas offering. Still, those who aren’t big fans of ‘tis the season films or musicals, might not enjoy its elevated presentation of the associated tropes.

I loved this movie!! I thought it was brilliant! Very on brand for Farrell and Reynolds, but Spencer was the cherry on top! For a story that has been retold far more times than it should have, this was one of the best. Songs were catchy, story had heart, wasn't expecting the ending, but it worked lovely. Would love to see a sequel.

I love it when a movie surprises me. I was prepared for it to be a lame throwaway but I really loved it! It takes fun little turns that I didn’t anticipate and the music and dancing just made me feel good. I’ll show it to my niece and nephew!

The musical component of this movie is mediocre, with mostly forgetable songs. However, he rest of the movie actually has a fresh enough take on A Christmas Carol to be interesting. There is great chemistry between Ferrell, Reynolds, and Spencer. If you can make it through the first 20 minutes or so it picks up into a pretty good watch.

I was disappointed when I signed up for Apple TV just to watch this movie and it was a musical. My mind was quickly changed. Ryan Renaissance and Will Farell were amazing in this. Great movie!

This is my first review. I logged in just to say that when I was watching the movie I thought "This is the best movie I have seen in months" and I watch around 3 movies per week.

Way better than I expected. Didn't stick to basic expectations, a few truly great musical numbers and a great twist on the (boring) classic Dickens story

One of the funniest Christmas movies I have seen in a while. It is added to the holiday watching list.

I was shocked to see that this movie was rated so poorly. It’s one of the best movies I’ve seen in a while! Those who didn’t love it need to check their inner Scrooge. It was fun with some genuinely laugh-out-loud moments. There were some surprising twists that made it even better.

Spirited is far from perfect, but it honors what has attracted people to the story of Marley, Scrooge and the ghosts. It’s about finding the Christmas Spirit in each of us, with a little help from the supernatural. Mildly recommended. detroitcineaste
