Sui Dhaaga: Made in India

Anushka Sharma, grappling with an under-written character, is solid. And they are supported by Raghubir Yadav, brilliant as the father who weeps while watching daily soaps and Yamini Dass, who steals the show as Mauji's mother.

In a film about dignity of labour, Katariya's mastery is most evident in parts where the focus is on the immense emotional and domestic labour every married small-town woman inevitably shoulders.

The convoluted plot is a drawback, but much like a tapestry, the beauty here lies in the detail, in the small things. And in this respect, Sui Dhaaga is a winner.

A refreshingly different love story than what get mostly served to us.

Varun Dhawan and Anushka Sharma portray the world of Sui Dhaaga with a gentleness that turns everything it touches into gold.

The film takes over two hours to stitch together the same blasted story.

Sui Dhaaga falls well short of perfection, but it never comes unstuck. It passes muster as a wholesome entertainer embellished with humour, warmth, authentic emotional trappings and actors adept at going seamlessly along with the flow.

The camerawork in Sui Dhaaga is an important contributor to the endearing chemistry between the two characters and the statement about their teamwork that Katariya seeks to make.

Some may argue the film is too simple, but that's what makes it beautiful. Heart-warming and sweet, you can forgive Sui Dhaaga for weaving in a little extra drama in its fabric.

Is it simplistic? Definitely. But do you buy it? Most definitely.
