Super Dark Times

How can you expect to maintain your innocence in a world where darkness is around us! As three friends end up committing a horrible act, they struggle to cover it up with paranoia and guilt growing inside, threatening to swallow them whole. A compelling drama that manages to leave you with a sick feeling in your stomach as these kids become killers!

An unsettling story with extraordinary acting by this young cast. The way these actors who were probably around 15/16 portrayed such authentic mannerisms and behaviors was striking. I often get distracted by overacting in big budget movies, it's always feels so forced but Phillips does a remarkable job with this crew to extract realistic reactions in the face of chaos.

This film is a perfect representation of this era, culturally: it's got a gorgeous shiny exterior but no substance inside. The actors were all interesting enough and talented, but they had nothing to work with and thus looked confused a lot of the time. "What's my motivation?" The director: "Well gosh, your guess is as good as mine! Just go with it!" The plot made no sense. The characters were muddled and erratic. For example, one second, two infatuated teenagers with probably (hopefully) extremely limited experience, are having an Age of Innocence-level romantic moment, and in a later scene they're fumbling around like we expect they would have to start with. My question is, why do the characters do literally everything they do? The writer/director might have answers, but they're not anywhere to be found in the film itself. Good soundtrack though.

I first watched this movie 3 years ago and it still remains as my favorite movie of all time. A nonstop recommendation from me!

Saw this on the recommendations of the critics but found it to be a movie that starts with promise but by it's final act has become rather disappointing.

This movie is incredibly dark and will stay with you long after it ends.

The times were super dark indeed. While a simple plot on the surface, this one was genuinely unsettling in a way that films often miss the mark on - it maintained an air of believability. A classic tale of trouble going from bad to worse to catastrophic unfolds along the worst possible path. Super Dark Times is as difficult of a watch as it is worth watching.

Exceptional thriller with incredible performances. A must see!
