Great cast with a surprise of the voices of Zooey Deschanel, Jeff Bridges, and Shia LaBeouf. The movie was short but nevertheless gave a animated story that was strong. It described a young penguin seeking out a dream to be a good surfer due to idolization of former surfer Z. The story felt surreal as certain audience members think the movie gave them hope, to which I agree to a degree. However, because I had watched Happy Feet many years ago, it was a little disappointing where the story could've had just a little more scene between Lani and Cody, because without Lani being a major force, Cody could not have continued his dream and being recognized as a surfer. The movie has its great visual effects, despite the simplicity of taking place in just a few settings. Overall, deserves the 4/5 stars and is a good childhood film to watch.

Such a great chill vibe and some heartfelt moments with funny surfing antics by mostly pretty good ad-lib voice acting.

Its an almost a five for me, when i was a child, I started to see something like 10 minutes of the movie and i didn't catch it because it was a documentary style, which today i really liked, so i watched this movie again and everything is literally perfect about it, the story the message the vibe, this movie could hit everyone because everyone got the same story just a little different, the ending could ended a little differently but it was still amazing and best for me, the "villain" the "hero" the characters everything is good, even this movie is animated you can feel and sense the chemistry between some characters, this movie hit me the most, go watch

Consensus: I will be showing my children this, so they know what true humor is. This movie is a wolf in sheep's clothing, and I still have not found a movie that makes me laugh half as hard. Incredible animation, that holds up over a decade later. It looks better than most animated films nowadays.

I’ve watched this movie over 75 times. Mostly after a night out. This first half of the movie is fantastic, but I don’t usually make it to the second half, so I can’t really judge that part of it. That being said, highly recommend.

Laid back and filled with funny voice acting performances, Surf's Up is a simple but fun animated film that subverts the normal kid's movie tropes in favor of a rockumentary style fun time.

In many regards this movie is a product of its time. You look at 2007 and take all things that were popular and combine them into one movie: you got yourself "Surf's Up". For the voice cast we have Shia LeBeouf and Napoleon Dynamite's Jon Heder. Make it an animated movie about penguins and film it in an "Office" style mockumentary format and you got something guaranteed to be a big hit in 2007 but doesn't have much staying power beyond that. The first thing people saw when they saw the trailer for this was, haven't we had enough penguin movies? "Happy Feet" has just won the Best Animated Picture Oscar the previous year. And the year before that "March of the Penguins" had won an Oscar for Best Documentary. This film seemed to just be riding the wave of penguin popularity. The movie does do enough to separate itself from those other films. Where those movies mainly took place in some version of the real world, "Surf's Up" is a bit more out there. Not all of this is for the better, the movie has a lot of low brow humor. A lot of slapstick and easy jokes. The characters aren't all that likable, the jokes aren't all that funny, and the story feels like it just drags. Most of it all takes place within the same 3 locations, the movie just seems to be treading water waiting for its 85-minute runtime to end. The surf might be up, but I can't give this film a thumbs up.
