TAYLOR SWIFT | THE ERAS TOUR

"Eras Tour" is a wonderful representation of the music, performance and spectacle of Taylor's fabulous show, which, as a concert, sets the bar as high as "Stop Making Sense" did as a concert film.

It's a really good document of a concert. I feel like I have a sense of what it would have been like to see those shows.

It is wildly entertaining but it is also a curious product that speaks to the larger themes of our IP-based age of content – recycled, reused and repackaged spin-offs that find new, often exciting ways to extract consumers.

With its labyrinthine arc, jumbled chronology and dazzling changes of tone, milieu and costume, it’s Swift’s ode to invention and self-reinvention, the many different lives she’s lived and faces she’s presented over the course of her career.

I couldn’t tell where the crowd noise in the film ended and where the crowd noise around me began.

I did not enter the theater a Swiftie, but I can say with confidence that this immediately goes on the list of great concert documentaries.

And while the film is obviously catered towards Swift’s dedicated fanbase, its almost disruptive impact on the cinematic landscape certainly elevates the discourse surrounding what is a typically one-dimensional form of filmmaking.

The Eras Tour is a true-blue concert film which makes no allowance for backstage footage or space for space for interviews. There is no pause, let alone an interval.

...hits every prescribed, specified mark.

Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version) could use some improvements in shot selections but it's one of the best concert films to be released in years.
