- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: mutant mayhem is an exciting new twist on the franchise that will have new and old fans, loving this new fresh installment. The film packs a punch with the stunning visuals and the thrilling and fun story and larger than life characters.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsI'm sure this is going to be an incredibly shocking, controversial opinion...Mutant Mayhem is great. The best theatrically-released film in the TMNT franchise to date and worthy of being the first big-screen critical darling for the Heroes in a Half-Shell, and I say that as someone who likes the 1990 and 2007 films and doesn't see the Michael Bay-produced films as cinematic travesties. The visual style is great, the action sequences are stunning, the decision to cast actual teenagers as the turtles for authenticity was clearly a good choice since the turtles feel like actual characters going through their own coming-of-age struggles and Superfly is the best non-Shredder villain these movies have had even if he didn't have the advantage of the low bar set by the terrible third film and, to a lesser extent, the aforementioned 2007 film with Ice Cube doing a fantastic job going from affable to genuinely sinister. While I'm sure not everyone will agree with the lore changes, some of which will presumably be addressed in a sequel, I felt that, as someone who was never a hard-core TMNT fan, they helped to make something that was fresh yet familiar with an ending that I did not expect knowing how the status quo usually plays out. Overall, a worthy film that's definitely the most underrated of the holy trinity of 2023 superhero films that also consists of Across the Spider-Verse and GOTG Vol. 3 and one of the best films released under the Nickelodeon Movies branding in quite some time. Good to know they're still trying their best with this IP rather than the usual notorious approach to anything that isn't SpongeBob.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsthis may be one of my favourite movies of the year. It's truly wonderful, sweet, exciting, funny, and endlessly entertaining and heartfelt. It was the Turtles movie I didn't know I needed, and now I can't wait for the sequel. And yes, there will (likely) be a sequel, and yes...HE will be in it. If you know, you know.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsA great Ninja Turtle movie that brings back the quirkiness of the original comic books. One minor complaint is something that they're probably going to explain better in the sequel.
