The drawn-from-life drama Tetris is a bit like the video game it’s named after: slow to start but, once it warms up, a bit addictive.

Taron Egerton fits perfectly into story of the classic game’s origins.

Director Jon S Baird harnesses the graphic style and plinky plonk music of 80s computer games to amusing effect.

In movie terms, it all works, and Egerton and Efremov are wonderful.

Baird occasionally drops "Tetris" pieces or inserts animated 8-bit elements into the frame, because otherwise the movie is a lot of drab interiors and conversations about rights, contracts and business ethics. It's not enough...

Overall Tetris has a few glitches in its presentation, yet its unique approach to its subject matter and ambitious craft is to be commended.

Sometimes a good story is a good story, even if it’s not entirely true. In this case, looking past what the film itself calls American Sentimentalism, you’ll find not just a good story, but a great film about a perfect game. Even if it is embellished.

While his moustache might need some getting used to, Taron Egerton is reliable in this chaotic cold-war thriller and you can count on him to keep you hooked.
