The Accountant 2

I’m tired of this stereotypical depiction of autism. It’s as if Hollywood has to assign superpowers to people on the spectrum in order for them to be accepted by mainstream audiences.

Affleck and Bernthal are in immediate harmony. Better than that, they make this strange, complicated, and honestly rather heartbreaking sibling relationship instantaneously genuine.

Even allowing for a certain level of baseline tastelessness in a contemporary Hollywood action movie, The Accountant 2 is nasty stuff.

The movie work[s] best not as an action thriller, but as a dramedy about estranged brothers figuring out how to be in each other’s lives. Sadly, the genre balance tips in favor of the former.

Affleck’s characterisation still dips awkwardly into Rain Man territory, but is more rounded this time and sweetly weighted by his scenes with Bernthal.

[The Accountant 2] is sillier, more rambling and reactionary than its predecessor, and all the better for it – perhaps as close as 2020s Hollywood will ever come to producing a modern-day Dirty Harry without imploding with guilt.

Lacking subversiveness just makes it hard to differentiate The Accountant 2 from similar films of its ilk.

People in Hollywood who get worked up about A.I. replacing screenwriters should relax for a minute — because the brutal action sequel “The Accountant 2” proves, hack writers have been churning out formulaic crap like this before computers were invented.

... the main change is the execution of the thriller elements, removing the twisty chrono-mystery for a straighter tale, and keeping all the things that make the first film so strong while moving toward a new direction.
