The Amateur
audience Reviews
, 88% Audience Score- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsI saw the trailer for this in 2024. Looked good, interesting, so it was one of the films I was looking forward to in 2025. Shame it did not do better at the box office. I have to say I really enjoyed the film. Only a couple of turns I guessed before hand. Couple of tiny bits, and I mean tiny, rather too sentimental. Nice to see different cities used in film. Spoiler a character introduced early in film just like disappears to appear later on. Could not figure out what was going on here & use of the character. Very end as credits roll kind of corny. So I recommend the film. You should enjoy.
- Rating: 4.5 out of 5 starsOne of the best movies I’ve seen in a while.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsGreat revenge story line
- Rating: 4.5 out of 5 starsThis was SO much better than the critics score of 66. Smart, fun, with great performances. I want a sequel!
- Rating: 0.5 out of 5 starsI gave this movie the lowest score I could because I purchased at way over priced for BluRay & Digital new at Wal-Mart and digital code can not be recognized. I hope the disc actually works.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 starsThe main character's relationship with his wife is barely developed so you barely feel his grief. And you'd think they’d lean into the fun spy stuff with the nerdy guy and his gadgets, but nope. The plot is your standard revenge fare and doesn’t really get more interesting than that. If you start thinking about it too much, a lot of things stop making sense. Laurence Fishburne brings some much-needed charisma, but he’s barely in it. And Jon Bernthal shows up... for reasons? He has no real impact on anything, which is a shame. Also, the ending? Kind of silly. That said, there are some fun action scenes and a bit of decent tension sprinkled in. So if you’re in the mood for something Jason Bourne-ish and don’t mind turning your brain off for a bit, it’s a decent way to kill a couple of hours.
- Rating: 1.5 out of 5 starsI turned it off after 30 minutes. Really poor character development. The description said "introverted analyst." There are so many ways of showing this, and so many better and more believable ways of showing who this guy is and what he does. I didn't believe anything and didn't care. How does this analyst on -5 floor of the building or whatever it was know the director of the CIA personally? PLUS, why did I never realize what a poor actor Malek is? The movie was pure dreck. I
- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsPerfectly good movie
- Rating: 1.5 out of 5 starsThe Amateur had a good story but it was executed poorly. Despite being released on the big screen the movie felt like it was made for at-home steaming with huge amounts of dead time in the over 2 hour run time where you could be scrolling on your phone before loud bangs make you look up.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 starsThere were IMO too many filler scenes. The scenes that were really good were super good and the scenes that were meh were meh. This one didn’t wow me.
