The Call of the Wild
audience Reviews
, 89% Audience Score- Rating: 2.5 out of 5 starsBased on the story of The Call of the Wild written Jack London, this Chris Sanders production will have you jumping out of your seat with suspense. The Call of the Wild stars Harrison Ford, Omar Sy, Dan Stevens, and Cara Gee. This film is about a dog pulled from civilization and turned into a sled dog. This movie was a very good mirror of the book but was missing key details. Most of the scenes that were not for children were taken out and this is because of the target audience Sanders was focusing. Although Sanders did not include important events, he added scenes that can’t be described as well in a book. He was also to use anthropomorphism much better by showing facial expressions and certain behaviors that couldn’t be shown in the book very well. I understand that there was many scenes that couldn’t be shown in the movie but most scenes missing were crucial to the plot. One of the most important parts was when Spitz and Curly fought but it was cut out.. It was important because it taught Buck lessons that he needed to survive in the story. I found it odd that when Buck fought Spitz, he was able to just fight with skills that he never learned. To have a better target audience, Sanders took out most of the death in the movie. In the book, the fight with Spitz and Buck ended up with Spitz dying but in the movie, he just walked off which didn’t show the same effect. I expected Buck to be a husky like breed but instead he was a st. Bernard. He looked nothing like his ancestors or how he was described in the book. In the novel, Hal, Mercedes, Charles, and all of the other sled dogs fell into the lake but they did not in the film. This would have been and interesting scene to see in detail. It ended up being a good thing in the end but I will get back to that. Alright, enough with the negatives, now I will do the positives. The movie was greatly directed and had many great scenes that Sanders was able to do in the movie and would have been hard in the book. One of my favorite parts of the movie was when Buck had to save Francois when she was under the ice. It kept me in suspense and I was very anxious. Another great scene was when there was an avalanche. Sanders did a great job showing Buck’s leadership skills. I know I said that I didn’t like how the sled dog team, Hal, Mercedes, and Charles didn’t fall in the lake but it ended up being a good scene. I say this because Hal ended up coming back infuriated with John Thornton. It made a great scene at the end when Buck saved John. Overall the movie was pretty decent and I would recommend it to anyone.
- Rating: 3.5 out of 5 starsI think the actor choices were good. I do feel hesitant on saying whether I liked the animated dogs or not. On one instance, you know nothing bad was going on with dog actors and that they could make dogs do everything imaginable. Otherwise, it just reminded me of scooby doo a bit. Overall, if you base off book, I wouldn't be happy. As a stand alone movie, I enjoyed it.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 starsCall of The Wild called me to make this review Reviewed by: Gery Gummer Everyone loves a cushy life, but we don’t always get that and must change. The Call of the Wild is a slightly far-fetched adventure story. It was a moderately thrilling adventure of a dog who left his old, easy life and was thrown into a difficult world of survival and hardship. Taking place in Alaska during the Alaskan gold rush, Buck and John meet after Buck is released from a sled team, and they soon become best friends. This story is about overcoming hardship and becoming our best through our struggles. John or Harrasin Ford did an excellent job acting along with the actors who played Bucks' sled owners. One thing I didn’t like about this movie is its excessive use of CGI all the dogs, including Buck, were CGI, and almost all the backgrounds were made by CGI, so it didn’t have that feeling of seeing something real. This movie showed that you should become the best you can be. Dog lovers will love this movie, and it is fine for everyone. This movie is rated PG, although it really is just G. I would say this movie was moderately good and would give it 3 stars.
- Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars"The call of the wild" might not be as wild as we thought. Everyone has one dog they love, for John, it was Buck. All dogs go on adventures, but Buck's was way bigger than just an adventure. The Call of the Wild was an adventure movie that was heartfelt and a good entertainer. Buck went on many adventures with John but there was one in particular where he finally found his calling; the call of the wild. The Call of the Wild occurred in Alaska in the late 1800’s. The main characters are Buck, John Thornton, Perraurt, and Francois. The Call of the Wild is about a dog named Buck who goes on many adventures to find his call. I think this movie was very good besides the filming could've been better when it was on the dog. Other than that all the acting was very good. It was kind of slow at the beginning but it was better towards the end. I am very glad I watched this movie and I would watch this again. I enjoyed the adventurous scenes because they left you on the edge of your seat waiting to happen. I learned to always be a leader in what you think is right but not too much so people hate you. In the end, this movie would be enjoyed by ages 4+, it is PG, and I would recommend watching this movie.

- Rating: 3.5 out of 5 starsSome people are adventurous, and some are not. But at one point in our lives, we have all had a special adventure, whether it was taking a hike, reading a book, or even cooking a new meal. John's adventure with Buck was special to both Buck and Johna and strengthened their relationship and connection to their call to the wild.
- Rating: 4.5 out of 5 starsDid you ever grow up with a childhood dog, or maybe you have a dog you love right now? That was how John (Harrison Ford) felt about Buck. In this movie, Buck finds his “Call of the Wild” while I am left on the couch, whooping and howling about Harrison Ford’s Oscar-worthy performance. The story takes place in the late 1800s in Alaska after Buck is taken from his home and sold to a dog-sledding team. They mail packages all over Alaska, with Spitz (Buck’s arch nemesis) leading the sled. They get sold after the mail route is terminated to a man in a red coat prospecting for gold. He beats them a lot until John (Harrison Ford) saves Buck. They decide to cross the mountains and explore. After a big twist (watch the movie to find out), Buck decides to live with the wolves in the mountains. Harrison Ford had an amazing performance in the movie. He deserves an Oscar, in my opinion. The man who played the man in the red coat did a very good job as well. He portrayed the villain very well. The moral of the story is to find your calling. Bucks were to the Wild. I would recommend it to everyone. It is rated 9+, but I think it's fine for anyone. My final score is 9/10. A wonderful masterpiece, but it's no Green Mile or MVP: Most Valuable Primate.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsEveryone has had the feeling of wanting to go on an adventure, the sense of going into the unknown. There are no rules or restrictions, a place where you can make your own rules and avoid disapproving gazes. In a film inspired by Jack London's book “The Call of the Wild” Buck's unexpecting adventure leads him to inherit what he has lost through demonstration, he learns the meaning of what it means to be loyal and brave even to those who seek to make his life a living nightmare. In this story, the buck must learn to trust his species and learn from his masters Perrault and Francoise the sled team masters. Later he encounters another special friend who helps him find his place in life. The actors did a good job demonstrating the difference between personalities and how they were connected to Buck's journey, however, the plot seemed to jump around from place to place as if the director couldn’t make up their mind. My favorite part of the movie was all of the beautiful scenery that was portrayed in the movie, one scene that stands out to me is when Buck was traveling down the river and you got to see all the lovely mountain ranges. In conclusion, this book turned into a fantastic PG movie and is a perfect film for children above the age of 9 and even younger children who like to be outside. I would give The Call of the Wild a 7/10 rating because it is a beautiful movie, however the plot seems to jump around often.
- Rating: 4.5 out of 5 starsCall of the wild sure did call me to the wild of the movie theater Reviewed The owner of ketchup Sigma Everyone fell to the CALL OF THE WILD. This move was one of the greatest adventure movies I've ever watched. This movie kept me going and never wanting to stop watching. This movie was about a dog named buck who was one spoiled to now owned by the government and was set on a series of events that would hopefully lead him to figure out who he was. The whole movie starts with buck in the south in the 1900s where he would eventually be sold to the government and become apart of a sled team in alaska during the Alaskan gold run. He could see the primordial beast inside him, but would he ever embrace it.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 starsCall of the Wild Show your wild side. Reviewed by: Bill Everyone has always wanted to be the leader and tap into their other senses. The Call of the Wild is an adventure. About a soiled dog from the South finding its ancestor and what he is meant to be. It took place during the gold rush in Alaska. It consists of the main characters Buck and Perrault, Francoise, Spize, John, Hal, and a team of dogs and wolves. I like how it shows how much Buck has changed to find himself. The main reason it is not more stars is that I don't love how it had a bunch of different plots. This is not much of a kid movie nor an adult movie, but I would recommend it to preteens.
