The Clapper
audience Reviews
, 33% Audience Score- Rating: 2.5 out of 5 starsIt ain't all bad but it drags. The main characters are sympathetic which is what makes you not tune out but the storytelling is slow and mostly uneventful. The premise had great potential but it just wasn't funny enough. This movie had to be more comical to work and I doubt it will ever become a cult classic. Only someone who has been in nearly identical situations like the ones in this film or those who worked on it would enjoy it I feel. Rating: 5/10.
- Rating: 2.5 out of 5 starsI thought it was OK at best. The interactions between Ed Helms and Amanda Seyfreid seemed awkward at best throughout. Then they go from, he doesn't know her last name, phone number or address to they are in love and getting married. Needed more development before making the big jump at the end of the movie. Had potential but either the screenwriter or the director screwed it up.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsThis is a sweet movie about earnest, socially awkward people who are just trying to make it through life. They get caught up in an exploitative situation where outsiders make fun of their earnestness and emotional vulnerability. It's gratifying to see them get a happy ending. But it does feel like it just misses the bullseye, there's a lot of untapped potential in this movie and it doesn't completely come together. It's not a bad watch.
- Rating: 2.5 out of 5 starsThe movie has probably become as unrecognizable as the clapper is supposed to be. A relatively stand out cast full of cameos, and just about the most random casting of any Hollywood film - but it's just lacking any substance or actual chemistry that it falls flat by the end.
- Rating: 1.5 out of 5 starsMediocre, thought it was gonna be more hilarious than heartwarming but it was OK. Tracy Morgan is the goat.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsA beautiful sensitive performance by both Ed Helms and Amanda Bynes. Both deliver a more understated performance than usual, the film is slightly let down by the supporting cast and a rushed ending and could have done with exploring more of Eddie and Judy relationship to understand why he is so desperate to find her again however this is a sweet story with a good heart that deserved more praise than it got.
- Rating: 0.5 out of 5 starsThis was so bad. Not compelling or satirical as it suggests itself to be. The chemistry between Helms and Seyfried is nonexistent, cringy and not believable at all. Avoid this one at all costs.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 starsSweet film that tries to give beauty and lightness in search of a person on TV and on love. But the film does not convey that, in fact it is very mundane and stupid and the behavior of all the characters is bordering on ridicule and most of the time it makes no sense. All the research-based storyline is futile, already seen and badly done.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsI, like many others, don't get the criticism. It's like viewers today expect everything to be big and flashy and over dramatic or over the top ridiculous. This movie is none of that. It's a smaller story. I found the storyline interesting and the acting to be great. The satire of that late night style of humor that Letterman popularized is pretty straightforward. Overall, this was compelling and deserves a lot of praise.
- Rating: 0.5 out of 5 starsA generous half a star for a movie that was dull to watch and had absolutely no character. The plot itself is incoherent and illogical, the characters are all eminently unlikeable (with the single exception of Seyfried's who at least seemed innocent, if uninteresting) and the script demonstrates little more than the ability to write sentences on a piece of paper. It feels like it has aspirations of The Truman Show but falls about a hundred miles short. Save yourself 90 minutes.
