The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It

I watched this with my 16-year-old son and we liked it, peeking through our fingers and laughing in equal measure.

With its third-act stumbles, it never quite catches either The Conjuring or The Conjuring 2, but it proves there is still spirit left in this franchise.

The biographical nuts and bolts are intriguing and, as ever, the jump scares and murk are professionally timed and delivered.

It's disappointing to stop rooting for a blockbuster behemoth horror series, but The Conjuring movies' quality and talon-tight hold has rapidly deflated over time.

I don't find these films frightening, but the Warrens as a couple -- with their daffy, retro updos that look quasi-Victorian and Brady Bunch -- have grown on me by this point. They're just dorky, and I like watching them hang out.

The film apes the style that James Wan established with the original Conjuring without establishing any real identity of its own.

This is an attempt to tell a slightly different kind of story, and deserves to be judged on its own merits.

The acting was believable, the case of Arne Johnson was interesting and returning to this universe is always a blast. However, the plot feels too jumbled and messy to pack a true punch, and it is nowhere near scary enough to invoke fear unto its audience.

The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It fails to meet its potential as a thoughtful thriller that explores possession on both the supernatural and human front.

Good & enjoyable. It’s not too scary, but truthfully the story is what brings the weight here in full. Plus the motivation from the antagonist here was creepy! Patrick & Vera are so perfect in these & I could watch them all day!
