The Crow is a brooding, beautiful film that has rightfully earned its place as a cult classic. From its opening shots, the movie pulls you into a haunting world drenched in shadow and sorrow, with cinematography that perfectly captures a dark, gritty, and gothic atmosphere. Every frame feels like a page from a graphic novel — which makes sense, given the film’s origins — but it also stands on its own as a striking piece of visual storytelling. At its heart, The Crow is a tale of love, loss, and vengeance, but it never feels like a clichéd revenge flick. Instead, it resonates with a deeper emotional core, largely thanks to Brandon Lee's unforgettable performance as Eric Draven. Lee brings a raw vulnerability and intensity to the role, balancing sorrow with a quiet, righteous fury. Tragically, his death during filming adds another layer of poignancy to the movie, but it’s clear that this would’ve been a career-defining performance regardless. The film’s gothic aesthetic is more than just style — it enhances the narrative, creating a moody backdrop where every element, from the rain-soaked alleys to the industrial ruins, mirrors the pain and beauty of Eric’s journey. The soundtrack, packed with alternative rock and grunge icons of the ‘90s, perfectly complements the film's edgy tone and elevates its emotional weight. The Crow is more than just a revenge story — it’s a poetic meditation on grief, justice, and love that transcends death. It’s stylish, emotionally resonant, and utterly unforgettable. For fans of dark fantasy, graphic novels, or gothic cinema, it remains a must-watch and a defining film of its genre. e

You forget just how good Brandon Lee was in this movie. Such a tragedy that he lost his life just as his career was about to explode. The masterpiece is a cult classic for a reason.

Brandon Lee was amazing in this. He had a wry sense of humor. The rock music, rain, and the darkness outside all helped to make this one of the all time great revenge flicks.

My favourite film of all time. Cinematic perfection from start to finish with a beautiful story and incredibly cinematography that brings the decaying city to life. The performances are of the highest caliber from all cast members who take you on an emotional journey which reminds you what is important in life. Dark, gritty but ultimately beautiful.

*The Crow* (1994) is a breathtaking, generation-defining masterpiece that embodies the raw spirit of '90s Gothic and metal culture. Adapted from James O'Barr’s dark comic, it follows rock star Eric Draven, resurrected by a supernatural crow to exact vengeance on the thugs who murdered him and his girlfriend. Brandon Lee’s haunting, iconic performance, tragically cut short by his accidental death on set, elevates the film into a cultural touchstone, cementing his eternal legacy. Blending horror, superhero grit, martial arts, and gothic romance, it was the first R-rated superhero flick to embrace such raw intensity. The meticulously crafted soundtrack, featuring The Cure, Rage Against the Machine, Pantera, and more, perfectly captures the era’s rebellious soul, while the classical score grounds its tender moments, like Eric’s heartfelt “It can’t rain all the time.” The film’s mythos—life, death, and redemption—resonates deeply, amplified by its real-world tragedy. Despite lackluster sequels and remakes, the original remains untouchable, a beautiful, brutal classic that deserves its cult status. Five stars.

Hypocrisy. The focus is on the male lead and the girl doesn't matter at all. It's hypocrisy. Not more and not less.
