With a splendid opening scene that perfectly showcases its premise, this black comedy unfortunately falls short of being truly amazing. Mostly because the plot just settles into the pattern of Cura inferring something as a sign for his bizarre conviction and following it, then the violence ensues as he further spirals into self-fulfilling, snowballing madness.

Why did I wait so long to watch this?! A devout theology professor/Basque priest attempts to cause as much sin as possible in order to contact Satan to prevent the end of days. He constantly steals, curses, self-harms, reads occult books, lies, maims, does drugs, etc etc. His trek around town leads him to a heavy metal record shop where he picks the split album "Live Death" (Malevolent Creation, Exhorder, et al), to listen to (I bought that on CD the same year this movie was released)! He befriends the acidhead/metalhead shopkeep in order to learn how to properly sell his soul to the Devil. The pair then team up with an unwilling TV psychic. The priest attends a death metal show (I noticed a fans wearing Emperor and Impaled Nazarene shirts - pretty impressive reach for 1995!) Believe it or not, this movie is even better than it sounds, in fact its absolutely fantastic!!! Immediately one of my all-time favourites because nearly every aspect of the film was perfect; from dialogue, to lighting, to suspense, to comedic timing, to casting, to cinematography, to wardrobe, to the black goat, etc they hit it out of the park! And it's a Christmas movie! Feliz Navidad! Muy perfecto! (Oh, it's in Spanish, btw)

Amazing pitch black comedy about the end of days approaching and a trio of misfits attempting to stop it. It's wild, choatic, and just an all around blast!
