There are a handful of movies in which an actor or actress completely owns every second they are on the screen and gives a performance that makes the movie worth watching. When it comes to somewhat recent Bollywood movies, Vidya Balan's lead performance in "The Dirty Picture" is one of those moments. This movie isn't perfect in terms of its storytelling as it does have a second half that isn't as well put together as the first, but I still really liked the movie because the acting was so top-notch. The movie also makes an interesting statement comparing movies that are designed to be a commercial success as opposed to movies that are a critical success. Despite the profound statements the movie tries to make, they are a bit held back because some of the supporting characters felt a bit cartoonish at times and it took me out of the movie here and there. Nonetheless, this is still a very memorable movie because Vidya Balan is just so good in it and her commitment to the role really shows throughout the movie.

No one could pull of this role like Vidya Balan did!

Too long for me... the main actress does a great job in carrying the film, interesting story... sad, apparently based on a true story..

The "Movie Info" is a bit lacking. This is a really good movie.

Yeah Vidya Balan's plush acting skills can not alone save this ship fitted with a time bomb thats heading on a collision course with an ice berg.

I am very selective when it comes to viewing Bollywood movies. This was took me by surprised. I love Vidya, she blew me away. Knowing that all she has done to make this role realistic. She was committed and sold the story based on South Indian Actress SILK. Told in typical Bollywood style, songs, dance, costumes, it is well done. Taking us back to the 80's really clinched it all. I highly recommend it!

Loy Machedo's Movie Review - The Dirty Picture (2001) I avoid watching Hindi Pictures as much as I would avoid eating something Rotten. However, this movie not only surprises you with you with its twists and turns, it leaves you emotionally charged with anger, surprise, sadness and confusion. I think Rajat Arora (Writer) and Milan Luthria (Director) have done an amazing job but yes, but if you ask me, I was blown away by the Award Winning Performances given by Vidya Balan and Naseeruddin Shah. Personally, I don't think anyone could have done justice to this role and had anyone else attempted this role - either they would have overacted or under-delivered - which is common for most actors & actress in Bollywood. With its sex & lust flavored dialogues and lust filled story-line, this is not just a Dirty Picture - I found it to be an Amazing & Thought-Provoking Picture of a Character I ended up Googling and Reading about. This movie is a must watch and yes, do some reading up on Silk Smitha - A woman whom you will either admire for her power, her capacity and her tragedy - like how I ended up adoring or hate - exactly like how the world did and sympathize with for her folly. Overall Rating 8 out of 10 PS - Watch it with English Subtitles like how I did :) Loy Machedo loymachedo.com | loymachedo.tv

Vidhya Balan's acting is extra ordinary that she brings the soul to the character that she portrayed . Bollywood Cinema has reached it's new heights in movie making.
