The Domestics
audience Reviews
, 51% Audience Score- Rating: 2 out of 5 starsA bit stylish, in some gruesome way, but little more effort in writing and coherence would have really helped. Comparing this to The Warriors and Escape from New York, two much better written and paced movies, is unkind
- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsFun, dark, and kinda funny. the world feals like it has depth, some of the characters are a bit thin, but fleshed out more than they have any right to be, with how little screen time they're given. the action is well done, the final scene is intense, and Nina's arc is great.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsWas an entertaining movie. Hoechlin stole the movie. Recommended watch.
- Rating: 2.5 out of 5 starsA derivitave apocalypse fan film, with all the usual running and fighting against gangs. Not much of a story. If you like that sort of genre it's just another one. The production had some good points... the fight scenes weren't too bad, some of the cinematography was good and the leads were okay.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 starsi don't feel that my time was wasted, and i think everyone here put in a fair bit of effort, but there are much better films. another review says this is derivative of "book of eli". i actually think it's much more influenced by the fallout series. there's combat music that's almost identical to new vegas at times, and starts at the same moments it would during an in game encounter. perhaps there are similarities to book of eli as well, but the stylized salvage gear/decor, the stealth exploration of abandoned buildings, warring gimmicky factions, and store shelves littered with refuse are clearly inspired by fallout. i guess there's no working cars in most fallout games, but there aren't any in book of eli either. perhaps some of the more outlandish gear is inspired by borderlands. anyways, most of the film feels a bit borrowed and vague. it's not exactly bad or good, but perhaps you will enjoy it if you like post apocalyptic stuff. fair warning that some characters act in completely irrational ways that would risk their survival, but it's not so flagrant as some other similar films i've seen.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 starsIt’s very ‘Book Of Eli’ish They copied A LOT from the Book of Eli, in setting and all the getups the gangs wear, but for me, Eli was a lot better. This one did have some great action scenes for sure though
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsThis is an entertaining post-apocalyptic movie. The leads were great in their roles.
- Rating: 3.5 out of 5 starsI love apocalyptic movies and with a score of 100%, I had to watch this! I find that 90% of these sorts of movies always leave me with apocalypse blue-balls but this one didn't. Even though it was full of clichés and subtle plot holes (maybe down to editing??) I was entertained :)
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsIts entertaining. that is what counts
- Rating: 3 out of 5 starsOrion Films and director Mike P. Nelson present Kate Bosworth and Tyler Hoechlin America suddenly fell apart many years ago A black poison killed millions to 'reset' the nation but the survivors divided into factions; Gangs called sheets, gamblers, cherries, nailers, plowers, and the Domestics all at war with each other A desolate post apocalyptic society determined to kill each other every day The focus here is a Domestic couple Nina and Mark hoping to safely make it across the country avoiding any fighting But they have to get past one depraved group pushing their breaking point for survival This ended up being average at best; the violent portions end up being so far and few in between A lot of the character moments are less interesting dragging things out and not as humorous as I expected The ending is where things get really exciting with many more savage individuals coming after the couple in the one place they feel most safe This isn't quite Mad Max-level, you can tell this is on a tiny budget wishing the world was bigger But Bosworth and Hoechlin make this grim future intense being not too far from reality They both finally embrace the skills needed to live freely in this dead world
