The Donor Party

In a day and age where "stealthing" can be considered a form of criminal sexual assault, it's odd to see a movie turn the act of poking holes in a condom or using a man as free insemination for laughs.

Characters and subplots come and go seemingly at random, and writer-director Thom Harp has no sense of what's potentially funny about any of them.

There are some very nice moments which are well thought out and some laugh out loud characters. However, in the end Jaclyn doesn’t really feel like a character who’s learned anything.

In trying to inject a serious discussion about sex and parenthood it feels disjointed and ultimately too soft for the rule-breaking comedy it so clearly wants to be.

Contemporary parenting suffers a setback in this thinly sketched comedy.

..not even vaguely amusing or in any sense believable despite the arduous over-acting of an appealing star who deserves better material.

The Donor Party takes a raunchy look at female sexuality in modern times. The idea of random unprotected encounters takes shape - all baby, no daddy. I confess to a few chuckles in the cringeworthy plot, but was left disgusted.

It's probably too much to ask for complexity within something like The Donor Party, but this movie doesn't even give us complications that fit into its simple setup.

Harp basically films rehearsals with this limp endeavor.
