The Empty Man
audience Reviews
, 61% Audience Score- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsA very solid slow-burn horror mystery that rewards patience. The story kept me engaged with a central mystery that unfolds steadily, clue by clue. The film certainly has its flaws, namely a few plot elements that don't quite land and a second act that occasionally drags just a bit. However, it also has a lot going for it, including strong performances, striking and moody cinematography, a creeping sense of dread, a satisfying reveal, and one particularly effective scare that completely caught me off guard. If you're simply looking for fast-paced thrills or a straightforward, easily digestible plot, this may not be the film for you. But if you enjoy horror that's more cerebral, immersive, and challenging, there's a strong chance you'll enjoy The Empty Man.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 starsThis reminds me of all teenager horror movies I watched when i was boy.
- Rating: 3.5 out of 5 starsIt was kind of slow and confusing, but I enjoyed watching it. I definitely recommend it for horror fans.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsKeeps u guessing till the end!!!
- Rating: 4.5 out of 5 starsOne of the greatest cosmic horror films ever made, David Prior's film is an unsung masterpiece of dread & unknowable terror. James Badge Dale is an outstanding lead, the visuals are wild, the music is eerily haunting & the writing is very clever. It's not even sort of perfect, but most of its imperfections help cement this movie as a great one.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 starsThis movie was a bad blend of so many genres that at the end, it was a nonsensical movie about nothing. At the begining it seemed like a evil possesion movie, then it became a slasher teen movie, then an evil cult movie, a homage to "The Ring", then the children of the corn, to finish like a new era apocalyptic movie. At the end you are so confussed with so many messages that you just want the movie to end, to try to recover your life back. Way too long, way to disappointing. 😣
- Rating: 4.5 out of 5 starsBy the end of the film your brain will have danced itself into a knot. Incredible pacing coupled with a plot comparable to the composition of masterfully crafted symphony. This film will simultaneously have you on the edge of your seat and terrified curled in a blanket, forging diamonds with the clench of your anus. Thought plus concentration plus time equals flesh. - w1sh and reverend XP
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsI'm usually resistant jumping on the "hidden gem" bandwagon, but holy crap for a movie I just stumbled across this knocked my socks off. I mean from the get-go. Truly original, scary (great job with the skeleton and wraith design and execution), thought provoking (had to read up a bit on tulpas) and trippy as hell with the ending. You can't ask for more from something you stumbled across on Amazon on a Sat night. Very interesting backstory to this movie as well, sounds like its own studio and marketing team tried to kill it. Spent a bit of time on reddit threads after watching this, in a good way. Not because the movie was confusing. Just wanted to see what others thought. Very highly recommend.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsSo good! Really original yet pulled on tried and true mystery thriller suspense moments. Love the philosophy and psychology, scenery and acting. Iv already seen it 3 times now and will watch more
